oh man, bad news bears. i just came back from cvs!!! had i read these 20 pages of posts before I left, i wouldn't even have bothered to go knowing people probably went crazy and dried up all the stores by now.

anyways i just logged in to say that the cvs was out of vrs, and i remembered reading the wiki the other day about handing the tag to someone to encourage them to order more. Maybe the cashier wasn't paying attention or she didn't understand me, but she rang up the tag and tried to sell it to me for 3.95 lol

Any way we can have Talk Board lobby CVS to stop the madness?

This, however, will be irrelevant once the POS are hard-coded.

Agreed, I also asked my CVS shift manager if she heard anything about this and she said no. I think this is the beginning of the end for CVS.

This is OfficeDepot all over again. The next shoe to drop will be VGC.

Chances are this has absolutely nothing to do with MS and everything to do with the massive amounts of fraud involving pre-paids going on right now.

Changing it to cash only isn't going to stop it from being used for fraud, these people will pay with cash now -- if they were using cc in the first place.

Hence the "is the customer standing in front of you?" note on their screens now.

That said, reports are seemingly coming from those registered in the past few months &/or <200 posts. Somebody is chuckling right now...it will remain to be seen just who.

I'd like to take a moment here to point out that everyone I've ever seen in Atlanta using the ATM in CVS is clearly committing some kind of fraud / laundering money as evidenced by the several hundred dollars being withdrawn, sagging pants, the activation sticker is still on the front of the bank card, and they have to look at their phone to remember the PIN number.

Why couldn't they be focusing on that instead!?!?!?! (Aside from the obvious fact they're probably not taking a loss on it -- the ATM operator is most likely getting the Reg E chargeback)

Hmmm...is "sagging pants" another one of those MS code words?

There have been reports of fraudsters buying VRs or attempting to buy VRs with stolen CC and ID, and as of late, trying to buy them over the phone. That's why a number of us have seen/heard about the screen at CVS that asks if the customer is standing in front of you, and if he/she is regular customer.

Maybe their pants are sagging because their pockets are filled with dollar coins from the US Mint! :-)

Time for CVS to encounter the wonderful world of counterfeiting! Those ink pens are easily defeated. So unless they do what China does and have the magnetic readers/counters at each store, they're in for some real fun.

But the VR is not a reloadable product. You cannot reload the VR card itself. The memo may be talking about only cards that can be swiped and reloaded.

When the memo mentions vanilla reload network, maybe it is talking about cards that can be reloaded with in the vanilla reload network.

This may be wishful thinking but hopefully correct.

Take a look at your receipt ... it lists each coupled line item as:

1 VAN RELOAD NETWRK EACH 500.00N
1 3.95 ACTVTN FEE 595 3.95N

So "Vanilla Reload Network" as a description in this memo simply reflects how they have it coded into their POS.
