New data point, I have been buying beans at cvs since the beginning, the receipt has always said the cards have been activated, and have been able to load them right away. Today the receipt says-- prepaid card activation will occur within 24 hours-- sure enough I tried loading them and they aren't activated. Wondering if this is a one time thing or something new being implemented by cvs?

Bought $5K about two hours ago and all 10 cards were activated upon purchase.

It's not new, and it usually doesn't take the full 24 hours. Give it a few more hours to activate.

Beware - CVS stores in Atlanta are calling their merchant processor and authorizing cards via phone before running the cards at POS when buying vanilla reloads. This does nothing other than cause delay and double pre-Auth your card thereby reducing your credit line 2x the size of your purchase. I hate overzealous cashiers!

Thanks, I'll load them later-- just hate having 5k sitting around. I know people have posted before about this happening but this is the first time I've seen it printed on the receipt and I've been buying them since the beginning. Double checked both of my receipts for Fri and Sat when I bought the same and they just say activated.

You can only load $1K/day so its not like if it was available right away that you can load all $5K anyways.

BB is not the only place one could load VR. Nor you have any idea how many accounts the poster has.

It is amazing to see posts assuming others have the same situations as themselves.

For $42?? Why not just use it for lunch or dinner out, and be done with it?

Because I only bought the FAR stuff to liquidate Staples GC's that I bought at a discount with eBay GC's that I needed to liquidate.

So does anybody know the answer to my original question?

I have a $42 rewards prepaid Visa from Staples and a PIN cannot be set. I tried to use it to buy from VR and planned to put the remainder on my BC. I swiped the Staples Reward Visa card, selected 'credit', and it didn't accept it. I was confused because I've swiped prepaid cards before and normally it automatically deducts the balance, you sign for it, then swipe your next card. Does the POS terminal have something to do with it? It was one of those newer looking ones. Did something change where I am supposed to tell the cashier to do a split tender? I did it a few weeks go with an AMEX GC no problem.

BB resets at 12 Eastern time, for those of us farther west it can be easy to hit two different days. I can drop 2k each to 2 BB's slightly before and after 11 pm.

If you do not mind me asking, what areas in Austin are you able to buy VR via CC? I have not been able to do so in NW and SE Austin CVS for a year or more.

I have good luck in Round Rock and Cedar Park

Wow, that's ... complicated. I still don't understand why you're willing to incur approx. 10% in expenses to liquidate your $42 card.

Conversation with a CVS manager while buying some GCs.

Manager: You know we have Vanilla Reload also if you want some. We had to keep them behind register as too many people were just walking out with them.

Me: Okay thank you (I have already done my reloads for the month)

So people are shoplifting the cards? I thought they kept them behind the counter to avoid people hiding stashes of the cards around the store.

Exactly,

I have numerous BB from friends and family as well as the HR emerald cards, 5k is not a problem on a daily basis, sometimes it helps coming from a big family:D
