I live in Denver where CVS does not exist. Heading out to Vegas next week and hoping to stock up on some beans. Any FT'ers in LV care to share a successful location or two I should visit while in town? Thanks for your help.

So I found out why my DL scan was not allowing purchases of $1k or greater here - for some reason all of my local CVS are coded to force separate transactions if you get reloads at $500, but only if the DL scan is triggered (at $1k). The result for me is that I'll continue to buy VRs at just under $1k for each trans to avoid having to do multiple $500 trans (which takes a lot longer compared to a couple of sub-$1ks x 2).

Had a store in Passaic County NJ refuse to sell to me and claimed they'd be fired if they let me pay with Amex GC. Quite frustrating since I've bought here previously using them. I'll have to try again when the cashier that knows the deal is working.

Cashiers at my two go-to CVSs were surprised to get the new message on their screen today. One told me that the store lost $5K this week as they were scammed. She said someone called and said they were with the corporate office and asked the manager to provide VR pin numbers. She said the manager has been fired. She also said the 2 other local CVSs were scammed a well (lost $2K and $3K respectively).

I have a feeing the VR game will end soon because of these problems which is why is I have been buying as much as I can. I keep thinking, however, about what my wife would do with thousands of dollars of VRs if something happened to me. Guess I will try to show her what to do.

CVS Card Auth Atlanta

Anyone else being told by CVS that they have to call your card in for authorization? I live here in Atlanta and they've started writing my name down when I buy Vanilla Prepaids and they tell me they have to call in for authorization on my card. The end result is 2 pre-auths on my card. One for the POS purchase and another for the call. It completely ties up my credit line until the called-in pre-Auth falls off after 7 days.

Just trying to think about how that would work: Manager scrapes off PIN covering and gives it to scammer. How did funds get onto card? Did manager put back on rack and some poor schmoe buys & funds card with PIN already revealed? Or did manager get conned into funding the VR with stolen CC number provided by scammer?

So...which one of you did this?

Went in to a CVS today to buy a birthday card. While taking an envelope, lo and behold 2 VRs were behind the envelopes on the rack.

Yes, it seems like these scammers may end up in killing it for everyone. I doubt CVS makes enough money off the cards to justify the headache being generated by criminals.

Go to the mrg and ask them to start keeping them behind the counter.

Problem solved.

Just got the same story about scammers at my local CVS in Minneapolis today.

I have a CVS in my area that stopped restocking VRs and part of it was the result of selfish people pulling nonsense like this. Leave the cards on the rack where they belong, otherwise the stores may just stop carrying them and there will be no cards for anybody. Seriously, how selfish can people be? Do they want to kill this for everybody?

VR scam at CVS: See my post from 1/19, #3777. I got "ridiculed" for passing on this information back then, also got PM'd for being an alarmist. On another note, my local CVS also had the screen pop up today to verify customer was standing in front of them and to take no orders over the phone. However, instead of purchasing VRs, I was loading Serve.

How often do you do a 4k purchase?

$5k purchase anytime I'm in a CVS and there's VRs. There's people that do much much more than that with VGCs and have no issues.
