I have an Amex gc that I tried to use for beans but was rejected saying alternative payment form required. I double checked card and they have funds. Anyone having success at cvs with prepaid cards for beans?

Well it finally happened to me, went into a CVS, went to the GC display, picked up 4 beans, went to the cashier, she was very friendly, I placed them on the counter and told her I want to put $500 on each. She started to ring them up and stopped, ask the other clerk, "are these cash only", the other clerk said, "Yes", the clerk turned to me and said she can't take CC only cash. I asked her if could at least try.I got this line, "Oh I have and it didn't go through" I sort of chuckled and thanked her. As I was walking out she called me back and asked me are other CVS selling them with CC's. I told her that I declined in answering, "Thinking she might get the hint that others do." I asked her when her store stopped selling them with a CC, her reply, "about a week ago, our manager told everybody not to sell them with a CC." This was the first time in this store, so here we have it, a store manager set the rules.... Oh well, I know my other stores have no problems selling the beans with a CC..

Where was this? wondering if this is regional or all at local levels.
We know it's at a local level.... Store by store basis. |
5k a day
Does the 5k limit on credit card include fees? Like 3k in the morning and 2k at night... does that work or do I have to do more like 1.95 in P.M.?

I've used the Amex GCs and bought, literally about $10k of beans (separate days). You have tell the cashier to charge the exact specific amount of your gift card, and then pay the fees portion separately. You can pay the fee amount first if you like, then remainder on the GC... or vice versa.
But your $2000 GC isn't going to like the $2015.80 that the total bill rings up to. Boom, decline. |

I've had the exact opposite experience. $2015.80 gets reduced to $15.80 after i swipe the Amex GC, no questions asked, no totals entered by the cashier. No messages about alternate tender. It's quite glorious and magical.
The CVS stores in my county do not automatically detect the balance on prepaid cards, however, from my discussions on FT, thats not the norm at CVS, so I determined it must be either store-by-store or a regional thing. My grocery stores do though. I think (but do not know for sure) that it has something to do with how it is run (credit vs debit) and the CVS counters Ive been to do not auto detect or try to run it automatically as one type or another, and therefore it hiccups when trying to run it through without splitting payment, whereas the grocery stores automatically run it as credit and everything autodeducts fine. Just did it at home depot too and the register auto detected the balance. For some reason CVS does not where I am. |

It really is the in-person equivalent of "hang up, call again." |

And, by the way, in a month or so, this store might allow purchases by CC again. Over the course of the last year or so, I've had stores where I had previously bought by credit card tell me that I couldn't buy by credit card. And then, when I happened to pass through the same store a month or so later, that I could buy by credit card. I've found the enforcement of policies at CVS sporadic at best.

The biggest key to obtaining VR's is having plentyful CVS stores at your disposal. If one is out of stock move to the next one, if one doesn't take CC move to the next one, if one limits purschases to $1k worth move to the next one. It is not rocket science people......

Does anyone on this thread buy beans in the Orlando/Lake Mary area? I'm making a move down there potentially, and I was just curious. I have many opportunities where I am now, and I'm hoping it's the same down there.

I was in town visiting some time last year and the first CVS that I went to said cash only. Yet I was able to go to a different one in a different part of town with ease. Big area so I'm sure you can find lots of CVSs with no problem.
