I've never gone 'all in' yet in regards to trying to buy 5k all at once. I'm even too skeevish doing 1k (which is my norm). I just feel like I don't 'look' like I earn that much money and trying to buy 5k at once would just bring a higher degree of dumbfounded/incredulous looks from clerks.

Does anyone on this thread buy beans in the Orlando/Lake Mary area? I'm making a move down there potentially, and I was just curious. I have many opportunities where I am now, and I'm hoping it's the same down there.

First post on FT, but am really curious about whether or not anyone has tried to buy a VR at the pharmacy checkout when they pick up a prescription or other drugs?

I wonder if the pharmacists could care less what you're doing it for and likely get less of an earful from corporate on things like this.

I do this all the time.

Do the pharmacists usually know how to do the VR's? How much do you do in a single transaction?

Yes they do and if they don't just tell them to scan the back and the computer prompts the rest. I do anything from $1k-$3k/transaction.

Yes, they can ring you up for VRs. I've done it multiple times. :D

Awesome! I'll do this from now on and vary up my purchases on the card.

It still comes up as CVS pharmacy, so it won't do much for variance. However, the CVS that I frequent questions me over and over when I bring up a total of $5k, so I often do half at the pharmacy, put them in my purse with Rx's, and then do the rest of the VR's at the front. :)

Glad this works for most, but one contrary data point. I have two pharmacies where the register is hard coded to reject GC/VR purchases over $50. No idea why as it works at others.

Anyone have experience with DL scanning for VGCs when purchasing over $1k at our favorite drug store? Looking to unload an amex gc and already at my BB limit for the month.

It works just like beans. DL scan at $1K or more.

Sure enough after that day every cashier refuses to do any amount over 1k. Bummer. I assume there is nothing I can do about this? On the one hand, I know the limit is 5k and this manager is making things up. But on the other hand, I don't want to bring attention to it.

The manager is empowered to set limits and even go cash-only. Don't rock the boat.

Clerks all hard wired to do max $1k

I decided to show a receipt from two other area cvss to one newer clerk one day while just chatting friendly after having bought my $1k. My receipts showed the $5k plus fees... Two dif stores and recent dates.

She was firm in her belief that this breaks a federal law.
Thats what she said

I just get $1k there. Cant change people with horse blinders on.

Exactly. The management might have given them some story about why they made the change, or the message might have gotten garbled. The fact remains that they can set whatever CC limits they want on a per-store basis. Including zero.

This question has been answered in this thread, again, and not to be hard on the noobs, but read this thread and others that deal with MS, lots of good info if you want to play the game.
