So for a typical 4 swipe transaction I pull 4-6 new cards from my pocket and put them under the divider, swipe and stack on top of the divider, and put the 4 used cards in the other pocket when the transaction goes through. It's less reaching into pockets, and I have backup GC and real DC in hand in case of multiple swipe failures. Also the real DC is on top during periods of waiting between transaction approval and the next swipe, so passing cashiers don't see the GC's underneath. Sometimes I feel like I'm performing sleight of hand magic.

I don't have to use subterfuge at the WM I go to. They're very accommodating and helpful. The WM on the west side, though, is just the opposite. I never go there anymore.

As already stated you'll spend $1 more for each card (over the VR) & an extra $0.70 for a MO at WM. Well worth it, and your not running around trying to find the VRs. :)

One caveat which I realize is cashier-dependent. (This may already be in this thread somewhere, but the thread is getting huge.)

At one of the WM locations I frequent, some of the Money Center clerks will ask to see the debit card I'm using for the MO purchase. I'm pretty sure that they are looking for my name printed on the debit card. So I always am sure to have one such debit card in my wallet.

Even if the clerk asks to look at the debit card I'm using, I've never had a problem if I show them both the debit card with my name on it and a One Vanilla VISA card. It's not been a problem to use 2 separate debit cards for the MO transaction.

One WM that allowed multiple swipes many times before, suddenly stopped allowing it about a month ago.
Was going there 2-3 times a week and never had a single problem.

Just be aware it's possible to wear out your welcome at WM, CVS & others and a single manager can put an end to what you're doing.

Finally found a place allowing more than 1k per day. 6 freaking tubs of ice cream.... felt like the first time without a condom :)

Very similar to what I do.

Cards go from an envelope held in my left hand, swiped, being laid on the counter on my left side. Continuing the process until the whole thing is done. I also have a BofA AS card that I use heavily. That is the last card I swipe, to take up all the balance on the transaction. Sad that AS program will ends on May 31st.

It still depends on which cashiers I get - some are really friendly, some are hostile. With friendly ones, do the max 4 swipes. One cashier reminded me on Sunday that she could only do 4 swipes. ;) With hostile one, dont do any at all and just use the AS card which I try to ramp it up as much as I could because even though the program ends on May 31st, we are leaving the country on May 1st and not return till June 1st. So the last month is completely lost. That forces me to work a lot harder.

Quite true. Been thru the cycles many times over the years doing the BofA AS cards on how much we could purchase on one visit.

It's not really subterfuge, just discretion. Most WM employees I dealt with are nice and accommodating, but the few bad apples are the worst. No need to invite scrutiny.

This!

One cashier used to be friendly and efficient, suddenly turned the table on me a month or so ago. She became ugly and hostile. No idea why. Yet, when her co-workers were on duty, they could not any nicer.

Did anyone have any issues today? I tried to buy $1k at my local CVS earlier, but my ID wouldn't scan. I got a system error. I also bought $1k yesterday, but I don't think that was the issue. I've had this issue a few months ago, but that was a system wide error.

Just did $4k without issue. My first time doing over $1,000 in a single purchase. I was a little scared that I was gonna get a fraud alert from this (new Citi AA Exec) but it was all good. 50% of the way to meeting minimum spend :D

Interesting. While I seem to be able to charge whatever on my 5x TYP (soon to be RIP) when I put even $500 on my Premier I got a fraud alert. So it's good that $4K on a new card was fine...

Thanks for the responses. Maybe it was just an isolated issue. I'll try again later this week. The lady asked for my cvs extra care card for some reason and entered it. I don't normally give it since we don't earn anything and this wasn't my usual lady so I ended up giving it to her for some reason when I shouldn't have. I know the less is better.

I was thinking along similar lines, but the issue here is that I did my $5K purchase on Sunday night at 9:45PM PST, so even if we were to assume that this went into Monday, my follow-up purchase was on Wednesday night (around 9:45PM PST), which should have gone into Thursday, but that wasn't the case.. I am still scratching my head over this and hoping this doesn't turn into any sort of blacklisting, etc...

For those who are interested, I still can't buy VR's at CVS for $1000 because the POS system rejects my DL. I have been buying for $999 to avoid the DL scan. It's almost been 10 days since I made the $5K purchase. I wonder if I am permanently blacklisted :(

Also, one of the stores has a new policy now where are all prepaid debits/VR's have a different checkout procedure - they don't let you sign digitally on the POS system, but they print out a paper receipt and note down your DL number and take a physical signature.

Sorry to hear :td: I hope you are not blacklisted either. I hope my DL isn't blacklisted. I normally do $5k, but since I got the Citi CC, I wanted to do $1k to test it out. It worked yesterday and didn't work today for some reason. :(

I looked a few pages back but didnt see anthiing about your story.

Were you up to any funny business at CVS? Dispute or chargeback?

nope, no funny business. Here is the backstory:

Warning: This is going to be a lengthy post, but I do have an interesting story to share and also have a question to ask:

This past Sunday, I headed into a CVS late in the night (around 10PM) and bought $5K worth of VR's. Initially the store said the system restricted the sale to $1K only, but I asked them to try it anyway and like expected (after swiping my DL), the $5K purchase went through just fine.

Fast forward to last night, I go VR hunting to 3 different CVS stores. First store just had 1 VR left, which I purchased. I then went to the second store that had 5 of them available, so I asked the cashier to ring them all up and when the cashier swiped my DL (after scanning the 2nd VR), a message popped up on their POS that it wouldn't let the transaction go through (even before I swiped my CC), but the system allowed me to purchase <$1K worth of VR because there is no DL scanning, so I bought 1 VR there. I thought that the POS message was an operator error, so I went to the third store and here I try to buy $1K worth of VR and the same message popped out on the POS. I ended up buying just 1 VR, which went through without any issues.

Has anybody faced similar issues with the POS system not letting a purchase go through after scanning their DL (after the required 24 hour period)?

Btw, at the second store, since I gave the cashier multiple VR's, he goofed up and ended up giving me an unactivated VR instead of the one I paid for. When I got home last night to load the VR, I realized what had happen (after looking at the number on the receipt), so I ended up going back to the store in the morning today and a different cashier didn't seem to care and asked me to go find the one that was activated and take that instead (luckily for me, I went into the store last night just before they closed and I was there the first thing this morning, so they hadn't sold the activated one yet, phew!). Since I was at the store anyway, I ended up buying $999 worth of VR so that I can avoid the whole DL swiping issue again...
