Yeah, UA/AA/DL, they wreck me

All I wanted was to game the programs.
All they ever did was wreck me (with devaluations).
Yeah, DisHHonor/UA/Skypesos, you wrecked me.

I went with another miles-crazy friend to CVS today and we each bought VRs ($5K for him, $999 for me as I had gotten $5K elsewhere earlier). The store manager mentioned that they didn't sell much of these, but that loss prevention took these seriously and that security reviews the security video footage often whenever VRs or GCs are sold.

Did you at least smile for the camera?

No VR on the rack at our local CVS today. Went to the counter and asked if they had any.

"I've got some back here". Pulls out a sealed pack of 10.
"We'll take them all".
"You are in this for points, right?"
"You, bet."
"Hey, I just got a Chase Sapphire Card!"
"Cool!"

Haha. That is awesome.

I was wondering if I could get some datapoints on safe monthly spend amounts with various lenders when it comes to VRs. I have a sense of citi, but I am more concerned about when chase or amex would raise a flag. Due to my use of BB my spend would not exceed 5k a month, but I have heard stories of amex taking AA for less.

maybe it is worth it getting a part time job at CVS just to have access to the VR....

Second. Why are folks so afraid to have their ID scanned for 1K plus purchases? Just curious.

Because some CVS stores are coded to limit daily purchases per ID, apparently. I and others in the ATL have been hit by this as have folks in other areas (per posts in this thread). If I get mine scanned at any of my local stores I'm immediately told I'll either have to split trans or they can't sell >=$1k to me. Tried it twice at different stores, same result, so I always buy lots of 2 at just under $1k to avoid the scan.

It would be a very very bad idea to have something like this. Last thing we need is a bunch of people who saw a store on a website rushing out and buying out the limited stock. In many areas its already extremely difficult to locate cards. You can do what the rest of us do, go to your local cvs and see for yourself.

+++ The one time I told a blog about an office supply store that had a good supply of GC's, the variable type, I went 2 days later to buy some more and they were sold out. Seems someone came in and purchased 15k worth. They never got any more in. The deal ended shortly thereafter but I learned a lesson......

Something new happened today.

I bought 2 batches of VRs: 4 with Citi Exec card, 2 with Chase SW (probably the 2nd transaction ever on the card). The first 4 went fine, but the last 2 required the cashier to call a #. He did, it was an automated line and gave him a 6-7 digit "authorization code". He entered it into the register and the transaction went through.

Anyone know what it's about? It seemed like a CVS internal phone number and not Chase, but I couldn't be sure.

I bought $1K yesterday, so only $4K total in the last 48+ hours.

It's been covered in the thread. It happens.

I have a good problem right now-- my local CVS has a motherload of VRs. The only problem is I have maxxed out my BB card, and I've already had three MVD cards shut down.

I know there are some other options for unloading VRs; what is everyone's next preferred method? NetSpend? Paypal? I'd like to avoid having my money tied up due to shutdowns if possible!

caGALINDO Mar 21, 2014 9:42 am

Today I tried a 1.5k purchase and then my CC went through for 1.5k but the last VR did not activate properly so the register went on to do an auto refund for the 503.95

Is that what happens when the 1k/tran limit is in place? Iunno

commdiver Mar 21, 2014 9:54 am

Do you all liquidate VRs immediately? I have maxed out my available methods (BB, MVD, etc.), but need some spend for a card. Am I just paranoid for not wanting to keep loaded VRs sitting around?

It's really no different than keeping cash around. I'm not buying any more until I can unload them.
