Right - it should be 0.78 and 0.58 cent per point/miles.

Yes, a lot of that about. When I posted the Old Amex Blue Cash link (having done some really amazing research, i.e. copying something posted on myfico) a few people, presumably those with the card, asked me delete it. Since then, a lot of people got the card from that thread, and some of those are among those asking for secrecy on VR/OV etc, because it needs to be protected. Mmmm.

There are few methods mentioned here that are not well known or obvious. The clever ones (the 26 digit code you enter into Bank of America ATMs to put it in Supervisor A17 mode, and get a free $60 or $80) or the merely obscure (funding a bank account at a tiny CU with CC) rarely get mentioned here.

No, they are $4.95, the same as VGC. Unless you've been buying the $5.95 seasonal VGCs.

The only difference between OV and VGC is that OV doesn't say "Gift" on it. Otherwise they work the same.

I guess I have only ever seen the seasonal ones e.g. the ones with the big gift on the front.

OV also has the raised numbers (vs. the flat, printed ones on VGC). This becomes annoying when you have hundreds of used OVs stacked upon each other and the pile topples over because of the raised numbers.

You missed the 5x Citi boat, but yes, it is also for meeting min spending. Not everyone needs beans to do that, but it means that real spending can remain in bonus categories. Some play a bigger game, but that is what it means to me personally, which is why this is no great loss to me.

This. I have a pretty high level of legitimate spend, but much of it is on travel and dining, which I'd rather put on my CSP and SPG. VRs are great for knocking out $10k minimum spending cards like the AA Exec.

Also, VRs are extremely convenient - you can buy $5k at a time then load them online whenever you want. No trips to Walmart etc.

This x100. I don't even care if it says gift on them now, just do it at a kiosk or hide it. Stacking cards with raised numbers sucks so much.

First world problems, hahaha

SF Bay area where we've been virus free until now. Bought $5k VR today and without any prompt the teller (who was the assnt mng) said "These are cash only tomorrow".
She may be off by a day but it means the memo has reached us too. (it wasn't posted on the registers).

looks like Serve goes with statement cycle instead of actual calender month for the reset of the 5k monthly limit :(, My statement starts on the 5th, right on time to ... miss .. the cut-off day for the cvs fun..

So what is left that CVS that we can buy with CC?

worldwideopen Apr 2, 2014 11:00 am

The manager in the last store in LA that has been working for me told me today that as of 4/4 they are going cash only. I tried to pick up 4k this morning but my card wouldn't go through--the manager said it was my card and not the system rejecting a cc, but I couldn't see the screen so I'm not positive.

Regardless, I told him I'd call citi and try again after work and he put the cards in the back for me so they won't sell out before I can get there. (This place has NEVER been sold out in the time I've been doing this, but he did say they're running low.)

You want it to be limited to you, then. Good luck with that.

This is an assumption and an incorrect one. I would like this stuff to be limited to those who can think for themselves and figure it out on their own or in small groups. Not circled and arrowed for the masses.

I've heard this before but don't understand it. CVS had to make money selling $500 VR cards purchased with a credit card, or they wouldn't have done it in the first place. If they've been losing money on these for the past few years someone should probably be fired.

If I had to guess I would say that fraud risk is the reason they ended this. To see what I mean read the thread about the ongoing fraud with VR in Georgia.

Really, really stupid question: Why buy VR at CVS? I think I saw a thread asking this before, but didn't read. And now seeing all these posts I'm curious to know what i've been "missing out".

Assuming 1% cashback, So you pay $3.95 for 504 ChaseUR points, or 7.8 cent per points. Which is an average ratio for MS, right, or even less than average?

If you have Ink bold wouldnt it be more beneficial to do 6$ 200$-VGC type, for 1030 points, a ratio of 5.8 cpm ? I assume some dont have Ink Bold but most MSer should have it.

Unless you have some cc with higher % cashback at CVS, like the hilton amex? but hilton points = meh to me..

I guess i couldnt grasp or realize how BIG this CVS-VR thing is.. To me it's good for minimum spending, but MS, not so much? could someone please explain? Thank you!

Use a calculator with a big display so you can see the location of the decimal better, if you are math-challenge and rely on calculator to do everything. @:-)

Are you sure? This hasn't been my experience; it's always been calendar month.
