try a different cvs :)

that is what I figured from reading this thread...

I usually hit up Walgreens as there are more in my area, but I'll try another CVS on my next drive by.

Any established tips..or is it either they say yay or nay?

walgreen will not let you buy VR with a credit card, hardcoded at register

Hey guys...hope someone will save me the time of reading through this entire thread. I'm not new to manufacture spend, but am new to using CVS.

I went into a CVS today to buy $1000 of gift card. Not reload beans, but the non-reloadable variable Visa cards. I was told I couldn't pay with credit but the cashier, and then the manager came over and confirmed. He said it was company policy. Even when I asked "company policy or store policy?"

My gist from this thread is that credit should still be allowed up to $1000. Is this not correct?

This is in Chicago BTW.

tia

In the last week I have bought gift cards and Vanilla Reloads at different CVSs and paid by credit card. YMMV

There isn't a reason to do the same if folks don't do dumb or fraudulent things.

Well even if CVS does go down the Walgreens route, it will take them a long time to implement. Right now, the 4 different CVS stores I visit, all have different policies. Some allow $1k in one transaction, some require two transactions, some take all your personal information for "IRS purposes", some don't take Visa Gift Card as payment, etc, etc. etc.

So I switched over today from buying VRs at CVS from my SPG Amex to my chase Freedom. The transaction was declined at first, so I tried my sapphire preferred and was declined as well. Shortly thereafter Chase texted me suspecting fraud. I called up both cards to let them know the $500 drugstore charge was legit. Funny enough this happened the first time unspent $500 at CVS with Amex too. My question is will I need to alert Chase to a $500 purchase each time, or once you do it once, no more fraud rejects.

No, after the first time (or two) you should be good.
The FA was triggered because you buying $500 of anything in a drugstore is way outside your normal behavior.

So tell me .... why are you using the Chase Freedom card to with VRs?

Thank you...good to know. I'm using Freedom since I need some UR points top off my account for a redemption. In still grandfathered until old Freedom 10x10, so I would get more UR points using Freedom than Sapphire.

Even paying for $300 of milk powder I got asked for ID.
They were surprised to see a Canadian, too. (Walgreens)

Immediately she says "No". He apologizes and says "We have transaction limits and daily limits" then checks me out in two swipes instead of one. What? He says the oft stated drug dealer and terrorist line then adds "if this is wrong we'll hear from Homeland Security". I guess my white bread appearance and polo shirt meant I was neither of these....

I would have asked him to call, as I stated before.

You know you could do better with Chase Gift Cards to load Bluebird at Wal-Mart at no fee, right? The only problem with that is that you have to get to a Wal-Mart and wait for the gift cards to show up.
