found a local one not too far from my house that I never bother to visited before until my two "go-to" CVS ran out. I've been milking it the past two months and wished I had found it earlier.
Started with $1k since that was the limit at the other two locations. Tried $2k another day without issues. Last week I did $3k and the cashier didn't blink an eye. |
Now that I have gone to my locations a few times, I may try to start ramping up to 2 and 3k.

(no cost?) loadable to BB? |

Are any of the 3 stores making note in a form (IRS requirement) on a clip board details of your purchases? name, Dr. Lc #, amount, type of credit card, last 4 digits, and more....

I can see, buy, load on bluebird, pay cycle, but isn't there a fairly low cap on how many you can buy, so it's not a great way to get points. |

At the 3 local (MA) CVS's that sometimes have VR, it seems that the registers enforce collection of the last 4 digits of the card number manually. But never a clipboard, and they ask for driver's license about 50% of the time.
Its a CVS typed up form which states the data is required for the IRS reporting. I am surprised no one discusses anywhere on forums ! Re Chase gift cards, still don't get the attraction (apart from meeting spend). Are their Chase cards that give more than 1:1 on purchasing these? no, I am not aware of. I am surprised that they code as a 'purchase'. I can see, buy, load on bluebird, pay cycle, but isn't there a fairly low cap on how many you can buy, so it's not a great way to get points. I don't understand this part of your statement. |
I have seen others post about the "IRS"-required form (usually indicating a disbelief of the IRS connection) but my local CVS's have never used such a thing.
My comment about points on Chase giftcards (your suggestion), is that if this is 1 point per $, and there is a cap of $2,500 per purchase with some time period, it doesn't seem a wonderful way of accumulating points, but I guess others do find it worthwhile. |

OK, so the CVS statement on that form is a lie, how can a large US corporation can get away with a false claim? And free... The only expense is hitting Wal-Mart to add to the bird. If the cost of a CVS Vanilla is $7.90 per $1000, the cost of going to Wal-Mart and adding is essentially zero (aside from driving to Wal-Mart, but I've discovered one on my way to work that has a functional MoneyCenter Express machine).

Yes, but if you get 5x at CVS and 1x at Chase, the savings are not worth while.

Many value miles much more than pts with fixed value. It all depends on your goals whether you want to travel afar in comfort or you prefer having extra spending money staying home. Not to mention that having Chase GCs do not mean you forgo other thing or vice versa. They are not mutually exclusive. |
I agree, but 5x pushes that argument somewhat. Plus the lowish limit available for the Chase Gift Card. But of course nothing to stop people doing both if they have the right cards.

Its just a handy excuse for the particular CVS to collect data. There's no IRS requirement. If there were, it wouldn't be optional as every store would have it.
To me, CVS is the in-person equivalent of "hang up, call again." If you don't like the way the current clerk is handling things, come back later when another clerk is working. If you don't like the way the store you're in is handling things, find another store. And, understand that even in stores where there aren't impediments put up, that could easily change tomorrow. And then return to normal several days after that. By the way, I think the IRS has recently shown they were looking for other fish to fry. . . |

I happen to have a "2X on everything" offer on a Chase card now that ends this month. Nice thing to have right now. FWIW, I sent Chase a note asking if I could have this on an additional card and if they would lower the $$$/month. Both requests were rejected. While not regular, these types of offers make the free GC's, Google Wallet transactions, etc. more worthwhile. These days I pay way more attention to the direct mail and e-mail offers I receive. |
