Hit a trio of close CVS stores at Lake Forest this morning. One had none (seems there was no spot on the rack so maybe they just didn't stock them) and the other two magically had two left each. Got the third degree at first store - "these are cash only sir"... "can you give it a try?"... "need your license... what's your name? date of birth? address?". This guy could get a job with the TSA for sure. But walked out with last two. The other store guy was easy going. Asked if there was some promo on these cards, presumably he sold a lot of them. Told him you get bonus points. Was fun fishing in someone else's lake. It sure is a lot easier back home in NC with bountifully stocked lakes and no licensing questions

My regular place is now forcing me to use a cashier instead of the self-checkout. I'm not sure what that accomplishes. Either way a staff member has to get involved in the process.

Long time lurker, first time poster!!

I have had really good luck in my area with the VR cards at CVS, my local 2 are always well stocked and don't seem to care about limiting how many I can buy, yesterday I did 1k in each of 2 separate transactions.

Only glitch was Barclay's denied one set of cards for a fraud alert but we got that straightened out quickly!

My usually well stocked CVS was out!
AHHHHHHHHHHHH!
The day before there were still 7 or 8. I wonder if I've got some competition.

Looks like I may have to start "hiding" them. Hopefully the restocking will take place tonight and things will be back to normal on Friday.

Someone here started hiding them. Last night the rack was empty yet the Mgr told me he'd just restocked it.

We had a nice conversation about how people were hiding the cards and he was none too happy about it. I pointed out to him that since the rack was empty, the next person to bring cards to the register is one of the people hiding them. He said he may ask that person to not come back.

One of the other stores in town stopped sellign them entirely because of the games epople were playing.

7-8 ha? Imagine 90 VRs at 830am and 0 at 630pm. True story.

Welcome to FT. Consider yourself lucky!

I bought 2 on Monday at a go to location. There was a manager in there this time. I almost walked out, but I gave it a shot. No issues at all.

You gave the manager a not so good advice. I usually look for hidden VRs in places that I suspect they may be hidden. I have been successful to locate them at least 50% of times. Now if I go to the CVS you have been to, and happen to find some hidden VRs, should I expect the attitude that I am the one hiding them?

Probably.

Honestly, I don't care if people get banned from that or any other store for playing those games. I also suggested he put them behind the counter like 2 of the 3 other CVS have so they can avoid these problems.

The last store in town doesn't have them at all because of people messing around, so if I can 'save' a location by burning a few buyers, I don't much care.

At the CVS I just went to someone actually put them in front of a bunch of other gift cards. I grabbed two of them. At first the cashier said debit or cash, but when I told him credit, he said I could try and there were no problems.

+1
When I bought VRs, maybe 80% of times they were hidden ones.

I'm not interested in hunting. With the $1k limit, I just want 2 cards and to be on my way.

Anyone having issues with CVS not allowing payment by credit card?
