Datapointz: April 1 approx 6:00 PM

Norwood, MA - attempted purchase VR with credit was denied at register, manager tried to override, but could not

Quincy, MA - out of VR, so I attempted credit purchase of PayPal reload and had success, I went back and looked until I found the lone VR that someone had hidden. This time the manager checked me out, but credit was denied at register. Attempted another PayPal reload on credit and again, success.

Wonder how long that will last... not that it's particularly helpful.

Here in northeastern Connecticut (Windham County), I have had a great run at two CVS stores always well stocked with beans.

The party's over. Got told it was cash only at both stores today, both saying the new policy had gone into effect today.

Nice while it lasted.

Full on Dikembe Mutumbo rejection at the CVS in Whitefish Bay, WI. I had $7 extra bucks that I used for some milk and other items then popped the Reload on the counter last. Cashier said "oh these are cash only now starting today". I asked is it hard-coded in the register yet? He said "no" but was not willing to ring it up for me. I said "oh well you can put it back then" grabbed my milk and left.

You are aware that there are actual "underbanked" who use their products as intended, right?

I'll see what happens today. Got 4 on my 7 mile drive home (orange county), so we'll see what happens.

Hit the first two on the way home, no problems at either. Loaded $500 at each on my CC just to test (I was gonna be back in the area of the first one later, so figured I could do that if I had no luck at the other). No memos posted, no mention. CSR at the first one (my most common) doesn't even ask anymore. Just takes my card and does it all. Super efficient.

Bought 20 in SF on 3/30. Called in to the same store today to see if they had any for sale and was told unprompted that they were cash only. Boo-urns.

In Atlanta, I had no problems buying VR or loading Serve today. However, I was told that 4-4 is the cash only day.

Two of the 5 cards had the grey scratch off on the back, but 3 of the cards had the turquoise and grey scratch off like at http://millionmilesecrets.com/2012/1...-reload-cards/. I've scratched off two of these and there is no number underneath. I have not touched the third one yet, but I fear that it is blank too. I'm not sure if I got scammed. Should I take the cards back to CVS or file a charge back with my credit card issuer?

Sorry to hear. The good news though is that in my experience InComm was extremely helpful when I had a similar issue earlier this year. One of my tampered cards had a few legible numbers left and they were able to load it over the phone after verifying the serial # and method of payment. The others with missing PINs had already been loaded by whoever was running the scam but the CSR helped me get a case started and like most others in the broken PIN thread, they came through with replacement PINs in about 7 days.

Quick tip if you end up calling InComm: quickest way to get a rep is press 2 to reload a card, 1 to confirm, then press # when prompted for the card. After 3 times it will ask you to press 1 for a representative.

Best of luck and hope everything works out for you!

Well, scratch another way to easily liquidate AMEX GCs.

I went to all 3 CVSes in Madison today. Downtown was out of VRs, but I bought some OVs. Another MSer here told me there were VRs in Middleton, but they were out when I got there tonight, and the clerk looked everywhere.
The west side store had VRs, though, and I bought 2, so I can at least load $3000 out of this month's $5000 to BB if it's cash only the next time I check.

Hit the downtown store again on the way back from WM for some more OVs. I like OVs, although because they're silver it's harder to read the numbers if the angle's wrong.

Went to a store in LA county's SGV and bought $999 no issues during lunch. Then went back after midnight GMT and the cash only policy was enforced by cashier, backed up by manager who showed me memo. That's how fast things change.
