Just got back from my local CVS. Picked up 2K in VRs. The cashier (whom I know) said unprompted that these are going cash only on Friday, but that some stores are rolling it out already. So it's still alive but looks like Friday (or Thursday at 8 pm) is the cutoff here.

Four stores in my town. All out of beans. Today was last day of bean purchase with CC -- cash only starts tomorrow. Drat! All in on the OV card going forward

I purchased 2 VRs in LA, Southbay area. The first location I tried the policy was already enforced then the next location that I was cleared at had VRs stashed behind other cards. I took the last 2 out of 3. I hope my fellow MSer in my area doesn't get upset. ;-)

No problems buying in Maryland today except the stores I went to are now completely out. Cashier unprompted said cash only starting on 4/4.

In VA (not DC area) got another $2000 today at four different stores. Two of the four told me cash only tomorrow 4/2. At this point I am good for the month of April.

Yep. Stocking up on VRs put me close to meeting the minimum spend on most of my current cards, so I'm having to fight the urge to just go all out and finish them all immediately.

Well, scratch another way to easily liquidate AMEX GCs.

Why? U can still buy VGCs with them. I do it all the time when my CVS is out of beans.

3 stores in DFW/Arlington area still go strong now. Cashiers said cash only starting tomorrow 4/2.

Two of the 5 cards had the grey scratch off on the back, but 3 of the cards had the turquoise and grey scratch off like at http://millionmilesecrets.com/2012/1...-reload-cards/. I've scratched off two of these and there is no number underneath. I have not touched the third one yet, but I fear that it is blank too. I'm not sure if I got scammed. Should I take the cards back to CVS or file a charge back with my credit card issuer?

Kind of a stupid question, but how much did you scratch off? Just the silver, or the silver and the green? I've seen some people accidentally try to scratch off both, although I'm not sure if it can actually be done.

still working in tampa cvs as of tonight. bought 4k worth. guy didnt say anything. guy finally recognizing me and now i'll be losing this friendship. too soon..

what's the deal with writing a bb check for over 2k? i am funding my roth ira at fidelity with this $ and their billpay doesnt have the right zip code. so i am thinking of just sending in 2 $2k checks and a 1.5k check but that might be more suspicious than just sending one 5.5k check and them calling me or whatever the process is...

I have definitely nearly scratched off all the numbers before; was only able to decipher them by looking closely at the indentations under a bright light. Ever since then I never use anything metal to scratch, only the corner of a credit card.

I hear you. This Sunday, my employee just started recognizing me and asking me why I buy them all the time (I look young), and when I explained, she wanted in on it. Funny how friendships start at the end of something.

Bought my last needed $1k for April at the CVS in DFW (Josey/635). Took some time to find the hidden VR's in the rack. Put them all the hidden stash back on their proper rack (screw you who tried to hide them!!) for anyone to have at it. Girl at register told me she thought they went to cash only, but I asked her to try CC and it worked.

Not that it's going to matter much longer, but, a penny. I've use the same penny for a year. Works great.
