Amex PRG points take several months to post anyway, so perhaps the person was confused by that.

Exactly. Of the 5 stores I work, I have just one weekday night shift cashier who will work with me on multiple 2 card transactions. The others freak at the mere suggestion of doing more than a single transactions. I also find the weekend cashiers tend to be more jumpy.
The other trick is to buy 2 at the pharmacy in the back (throw in some tylenol or something), and then on the way out pick up 2 more and buy at front register using a different card. YMMV, depending on the store. 2 of the 5 will usually let me buy at the pharmacy, the other 3 usually tell me to take them to the front. |
It really did happen on my PRG in Fall of 2012. I made a 1K spend, paid off the amount just before the statement hit, as I was going out of country for a couple weeks, and didn't want to miss the payment deadline, and didn't get the points. Called CS, and was told that the points don't register unless you let them settle in at statement end. B/c it was only 1K, I didn't argue, but it really did happen. I'm glad to know that this was the exception, not the rule. Since then, I've always let the points settle first.

I would be calling and asking for my points. You never know, you could be rewarded with a small bonus for your time! @:-) |
My CVS just started implementing the 1K/day rule :td:
Cashier says these are hot items and you can earn airline miles for buying them if you use the right card. 2 weeks ago there were stacks of them, now only 5 :( |

There is no such thing about "points to settle in". AMEX MR pts may go to a Pending stage after statement closed and not sent to Membership Reward account until payment is made. Sometimes even longer. But it never would need this "setting in". Though it is not uncommon that AMEX system has this and that glitch causing points go missing. A few SMs would get things sorted out when they did some research. I paid off our AMEX HHonor cards from a $15K spend in the cycle to only owed less than $2K at the close. Every single pt posted. |

According the CVS cashiers in my area, I have many kids that have prepaid cards like Mio or Netspend (less risk than an actual CC cause you can only spend what's on it and have to have the pin), and I'm a nice dad for loading money to their cards with VR.

+1 to Stoughton and WhateverDude.
Nice, benign explanations are invaluable when "questions" come up. My personal favorite is that I use VR's to load prepaid cards that I use for online transactions to reduce the chance of fraud. Store employees ask how this works as they love the idea. That said, some cashiers are catching on. I had to buy a $400 VR the other day. The cashier asked why I wasn't buying $500 as that would maximize my points/miles value. |
I am renovating my house. I reload my contractor's card to keep my material cost in check ;)

Saw a guy today who I'm assuming is an FT'er. Buying a $420 VR from a local CVS. If you're out there, PM me.

Bought 4 cards yesterday between Mrs and I. I can now put the Amex card back in the drawer. I almost qualified for Hilton Diamond based on the spend :-)
