I've had that error before...talked to a rep and they closed some inactive/old cards and that allowed me to open some more :) Rinse and repeat...

Yoyo: You're saying MVD #4 was was registered online with your SS#, but when you received the embossed card, you were unable to activate it and continue to use the temp card?

Because, I'm planned ahead for when my MVD go into spend down.

I do the debit Citi payments with the temp and my efforts to CA without an embossed card didn't work.

Thanks.

Correct. I cannot seem to activate the embossed card. The temp card has been loaded to the max and works fine so far. Maybe only embossed cards get put into paydown mode?

Wow!
Now that would be big, BIG news if true.

Lets' get some data points on that.

Three temp cards going over a month, still no shut-down.

One embossed card, not activated. No reason to, I don't do MO or CA.

That is definitely not true.

Yes.

Just wondering... Why is the account number on my embossed card different than the temp?

Had same situation like you, Temp Card will work for few weeks and then your account will be put in Inactive mode. I was wondering the reason for it and once I called and verified my information with permanent card, all worked.

You got your temp put into spend down mode? Was that your #>3rd card?

Have signed up for all my cards through the MVD website. Never bought a temp card, so not sure how that process works.

Interesting. After sign-up, you wait for the embossed card to come in the mail.

MDV temp cards are sold off the rack. At purchase, you can load/activate $20-$500 with a credit card (my experience at CVS ORD), call in and activate the card with your SS# (or do it onlie) go back into the store and load another 2K (separate transaction, max $500. @ $3.95 each) up to 2.5K max for the day.

I did this one time.

My challenge is what's next after the MVD shutdown. Do I call in and CXL the cards before getting new ones?

I've been able to regularly load up to $2.5K per day on temp cards (separate transaction @ $3.95 each) at CVS.

When you say load another 2.5K, is it on the same card or separate cards..
I believe you meant to say load $500 on each card * 5 = $2.5K

Nope. But good that you caught something that needs clarifying.

I purchased one temp MVD off the rack and activated with $500 ($3.95 fee). Then called into MDV, had that same card registered to my SS#, went back into CVS and loaded 3x $500 (3x $3.95 fee) and 1x $480 (1x $3.95 fee) for a total of $2,480. on that same card, same time, within 30 minutes.

As far as I know, you can have max 3x MDV register and active, so, 5 MDV x $500. each, would not work.

I'm looking for a workaround to loading and unloading Temp MDV. Nothing yet has turned up in this thread.

Agree that MVD is not as attractive an option if they are now enforcing $2,500 CA limit.

I know of two that had it happen on their 2nd card.

CAing is still easier then MOing and not having to deal with a Wally. Seems they don't want to allow large load ups any longer thats the main problem, once you cross a threshold they will place a Hold on the acct.

I still think its the best of the junk (besides BB or Serve) to deal with

How long does it take for you to do a CA at a bank? It usually takes me 5 minutes, never more than 10 minutes. Sometimes it takes me longer just to stand in line at WM to purchase a MO, which is why I minimize the purchase of GCs as much as possible.
