BostonFlyer1624, thanks for contributing so much to the community and welcome to MS!

I don't know how else to put this: if you live in or near Boston, Vanilla Reload cards are not impossible to find near you (unless you mean walking distance or something). I have personally bought VR at both Downtown Crossing CVS locations, and Central Square CVS. Tons and tons in stock, zero problem paying with credit card, in and out in minutes. I don't know the situation in the suburbs, but as far as I can tell New England is some kind of MS paradise: CVS on every corner and 90% of them are overflowing with VR & PP. True a very small minority still have the "old" gift card racks, and the others are occasionally picked clean, but again, since they have locations everywhere, just walk a block or two in any direction.

Good luck!

I am in metrowest Boston suburbs and I can confirm this. Most downtown cvs's are amply loaded, as are the various suburban locations I frequent. And I've never had any trouble paying with CC. Every now and then I'll come across a cashier who doesn't know the rules, but it's easy enough to educate them.

Good news - found a CVS with in stock VR cards!

Question: what have people found successful for cashing out MVD cards? Going to a bank and doing a CA? If I CA all at once, BUT, in varying amounts <$1000 will that work (if you can even break out the CA amount into smaller MO).

I know, I know, I am new to MS. I post mostly about hotels and help others choose the right ones.

I understand that you buy Vanilla Reload cards, but those are impossible to find near me. Also, no walmart in Boston. What is left for options?

Thanks for being patient.

Where in Boston do you live? I'll try to help you with a work-around.

I'm in Brookline and have mixed luck. Fortunately, the five or so downtown Boston locations just started restocking, so I'll hopefully be good for a while.

I would think the further a person gets from any College town the easier it will be. In NJ I know those close to any college are always bare

Does anyone meet the 10k/month pos transaction limit and do more in CA?

tuphat Oct 26, 2013 10:28 am

Maybe everyone knows this already, but:

In addition to daily $5k spend limit specified in cardholder agreement, CSR told me that there are also weekly ($8k)' monthly ($10k), and annual ($45k) spending limits.

Wow, awesome, I owe you a beer. I've been trying to figure out why my MVD keeps getting declined, but only knew about the weekly/monthly limits. Had no idea there was an annual limit...and just looked up my records, and yep, card started failing right at the $45k mark.

Now I can stop guessing if my card will be accepted or not...

Do you know if it's per calendar year? when did this limit resets? Jan 1st?

I assume these limits are separate from cash advances?

I imagine so, for the $10K monthly and $45K yearly limit have long been broken and no apparent effect.

What is the CA fee for MVD? Is it 0.5 or 1.95?

Definitely separate (or broken) for CA

I called and was told there is a balance limit of $10k, but I could spend up the the limit at any time. I've charged over that in a single week on one card.

Before I got the personalized card, it was a $3k limit a day.
