So the great surprise of the trip was Amantaka which – even given the very high standards we have come to expect from Aman – is setting world-class service standards, and is one of the true jewels in the Aman crown. I’d never met Gary Tyson, Amantaka’s General Manager, before this stay, but given what he’s accomplished at Amantaka, he is someone we will now follow to whatever resort he happens to oversee. What he has done in creating service standards of the utmost polish and skill in a location where there was no former 5-star experience from which to draw, is astounding. (And if you get a chance, have him tell you about the process he went through of hiring and training new employees in a “fake Amantaka” he created to serve as a training site during the construction of the resort.) Amankila...First, the architecture is fabulous and unique. The rooms are luxurious in a "non-western" way. They incorporate their surroundings and environment. They don't try to fight it. Everything about the Amankila is about being in tune with your surroundings. It is very spiritual, too. The service is beyond reproach. I have been to many Four Season and other very high end resorts all over the world. Although they are fabulous too, there is a subtle difference between the way Aman resorts goes about taking care of their guests. They genuinely care about your well being. Just confirmed a booking for a 4 night stay at Amanoi for May 2019. This will be a part of a Hong Kong, Vietnam and Tokyo trip.
Can't wait to try out my first Aman. I first learned about Aman when I did a beijing trip last year, and was looking into the Aman Summer Palace, I ultimately decided to stay at the newly renovated Peninsula Beijing. But this time around, I am excited to try an Aman property. |
