I guess that's one way to get people to wish you a happy birthday!

Dinner at Naples, a small, family run neighborhood Italian place. My chicken piccata came with a small salad as well. Very lemony. I might have liked a few more capers.

I finally tried the pickle brine chicken. I love pickles but I didn't love the chicken--it was edible though. And it was a putrid color before I cooked it.
Avocado and pink grapefruit over butter lettuce salad
Grilled corn elote-ish.

Mrs BV got a Healthy Choice 200 calorie chicken fajita bowl dinner. I ate old leftovers from the dark place in the back of the fridge, behind the pickle jar. There was sausage and zucchini and sauce. I had two helpings. I also finished the baby carrots and a tub of baba ghannouge. The freezer now contains nothing but hamburger buns and a package of frozen pot stickers that will be served as an appetizer tomorrow night.

Fried flat rice noodles w/beef...kinda disappointing though as it didn't have the "wok's breath" I was looking for. They also used a low grade of beef.

And a peach

Last night, we had a celebratory dinner at Flemings. Apologies in advance for no pictures.

Totally disappointing. Service started off strong, but after the apps and salads were delivered, there were long waits for the mains, again for our child's dessert, and for the check. My $59 filet was tender, but also had a bit of mealiness. No detectable seasoning unless you count the sear on the outside and perhaps a bit of melted butter.

No real highlights other than a great wedge salad, my son's lobster mac, and the bottle of Skipstone Cab we brought ourselves.

I'm glad someone else was buying, as I don't think I'll ever go back. I can do much better steaks at home, and if I want one at a restaurant, Texas Roadhouse is better for 2/3 (or less) the price. Just gotta take your own wine.

Yikes fleming’s is supposed to be amazing. Better than Ruth’s Chris. I’m stunned that it was poor. Eek.
The whole point of us DiningBuzz folk going to a steakhouse is to get steak food that we cannot buy & cook at home ourselves. The steak should always be perfect and not just okay and definitely not mealy. Yuck.

We started eating at Mellow Mushroom maybe 15 years ago. I keep meaning to look for the original store. I think it’s in Auburn, Al. We overnight nearby a couple times a year. I was impressed the first time I visited by the number of beer taps. I’ve seen many times that number since but it was probably the first bar I sat at with more than a couple dozen craft beers on tap.
