BamaVol , thank you for reminding me I had a breakfast sausage chub in the freezer.

I’ve been a little obsessed with casseroles lately. I don’t think I’ve ever made one and had to google for the basic definitions. As always, I had to create a recipe with what I have on hand, et voilà - my breakfast casserole with polenta, ricotta, pork sausage, kale, cauliflower, tomatoes, and topped with a little cheese. I must say, it’s pretty darn good.

Carryout:
Once upon a bagel, highland park il

ny-style pastrami sandwich on rye with requested brown mustard and pickle
cole slaw

leftover cookies from Solvang CA.

note - missed out on Billy corgan’s place. My loss. It’s the next door neighbor, having replaced E Street Denim (which once was in WSJ).

You seem to be eating well! I'm glad they're not starving you. What are the restaurants are on the books for your visit? I get the sense you all focus on old favorites, but happy to recommend some new spots if you are looking for suggestions.

aww thanks - our docket was full so I didn’t even bother to reach out to you or anybody about anything. Our main restaurants were joes seafood, barnaby’s, prairie grass… a super packed dance card!

I hurt my calf in pickle ball today and our supper hosts introduced me to a fancy vibrator that super helped!! Knockoff of Theragun.

Tug by planning your grand Italian tour! :)

After a failed attempt at taking a tour of the countryside, we went to the local trattoria (Trattoria del Pennello) that is literally located in our building courtyard to celebrate our son's 13th birthday. Lunch was seafood pizza, bone marrow ossobuco, and couple of other dishes. And of course partook the obligatory 1/2 liter of chilled and refreshing house white!

The view from my bedroom - the stone structure at the left corner is Danti's house before exile!

The presntation and this photo doesn't do any justice to the bone marrow ossobuco dish which was divine!

While not a grand Italian tour, my last vacation was Italy in 2019. This year my big trip is Croatia which I don't expect to be a foodie Paradise & I am ok with that.
I am always torn between returning to favorite places with great food (Italy & France) and going somewhere new.
Mmm...osso bucco.

Kalboz Jul 23, 2021 10:15 am

For centuries, most parts of today's coastal Croatia were part of the Venice Republic. And, hence, you will encounter the architecture and coastal fortifications in places like Dubrovnik, Rovinj, Split, etc. So I wouldn't be surprised to find similar cuisine. Famous Italian-American TV chef Lidia Bastianich actually has a Croatian heritage.

Finally, got me some Scacciata from All'antico Vinaio - I was 4th when I got in line. Truly a Florentian masterpiece! :)

Are you implying that I won't lose weight in Croatia like I am hoping to do? :p

I'm eating pasta, pizza, scatchiata, gelato, etc. every day and deinking wine like a sailor and yet my sugar levels been the lowest ever since I started keeping track. So, no, my friend, with real ingredients and no corn, weird stuff, or other sugars in the food, you will be fine! :)

Heading out to Gustarium which is two minutes walk from my apartment to check out their pizza - they open at 7:30 PM local time. Stay tuned, will report back ...

I suspect that is part of it - along with a lot more physical activity walking all day? and the more reasonable portion sizes all contributing as well ;) What ever the reason - good news anyway.

I never gain weight in Europe. I average 10 miles of walking a day and eat until I’m stuffed.

Supporting the hawkers during this latest round of restrictions including ‘ only take out ‘ allowed .. just half the stalls were open . Rather depressing with no lines / queues . As you can see below , we managed a good spread .
