Tomato & avocado salad (Rose Kitchen style)
turkey & cheese sandwich on toasted sourdough kettle bbq chips https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...e95481465.jpeg |
I rarely eat sandwiches, I might only have six or eight in a year. But I am a big believer in having one perfect BLT each summer.
Yesterday my tomato plant yielded a gorgeous tomato, but I was missing two components of my perfect BLT: homegrown or farmstand lettuce, and fresh baked bread. So this is not my perfect BLT but it was a pretty awesome one. (Store bought iceberg, toasted pumpernickel, pesto, mayo and bacon from Plath's in Michigan, which is the only place we get bacon.) I ate the rest of the tomato with just a sprinkle of sea salt. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...ee521035c1.jpg |

Turkey / avocado sandwich on toasted sourdough
avocado / tomato salad (Rose kitchen style) I’m fetching my spouse’s shawarma supper while standing by the Japanese curry spot where I spent much of 2017-2019 that they asked if I wanted the same thing. Oh that mental torture. |

That BLT looks delicious! And :tu: to someone that appreciates iceberg lettuce. Not romaine. Not escarole,or frisée or arugula. Just plain old iceberg!

I agree about one really good BLT or several. I am not at all fussy about homegrown lettuce though. Your tomato looks so googd. And mine would be on toasted sourdough.
ETA: I am growing four varieties of large tomatoes, and I don't remember which one this was. But I have one more ripe one from the same plant that I will probably make into a BLT tomorrow. It was a fantastic tomato and delicious just eaten plain. |
My SIL just got a bonus check, so she wanted to take us out for dinner at the place I introduced her to 2 weeks ago, Rickey's Sports Bar. She wanted Lobster, and she invited my mom as well. I got smart this time as the last time I ended up taking 1.5 lobsters, my wife and I decided to split the plate.
Now we are all lobstered out for the next few months. |
Another day, another ripe tomato, another almost perfect BLT. This time on was seeded whole grain bread from Whole Foods. I really wish my tomato plants were doing better this summer. I feel as if they are all a little lackluster for various reasons. I'm battling aphids on my plants at home, as well as blossom end rot, which I am addressing with neem oil and calcium. My plants at my garden plot are suffering from low nitrogen levels in the soil, which I'm also trying to address.

After doing Wonders of Milan Walking Tour, I noticed a long line of locals at Ciao Pizza near the Duomo and got into it. Got us a slice of every available pizza kind (six giant slices averaged to about US$ 3.50 each). It was really good!
