You inspired me to bake a couple of Giant (about 5 in. diameter) Crinkled Chocolate Chip Cookies. (I keep the dough frozen so we don’t eat them all in one sitting.) They’re fun to bake because you bang the cookie sheet 2 or 3 times during baking to get the effect.

Those look delicious

wouldn’t it be cheaper to buy Trader Joe’s dough to make your own that’ll be a 7-9 and still be under $5 each? Depending on the opportunity cost for the 45 minutes of work versus 15 minutes to fetch the BOGO!

I doubt that I could make a pizza for under $5. I buy dough from a local pizzeria which is maybe $2. Then there is the price of sauce (I usually make my own with roasted tomatoes) which I don't know how much a jar of pizza sauce is but at least a couple bucks I guess. Cheese is not cheap. And that is before toppings....pepperoni, sausage, meatballs, bacon etc. Artichoke hearts, arugula, olives, shrooms, onions etc. And 45 minutes of work for lunch is a lot to some of us plus clean up and plus shopping for all of those ingredients etc.
You can still make pizza at home sometimes and get take out pizza sometimes. They are not mutually exclusive. I don't understand why you would swear off restaurant pizza just because you can make it at home. I find that every restaurant has a different sauce or crust or flavorings---I like variety and would be really bored with eating the same thing every time.

You'd get closer than you think for a 2-3 topping pizza. I buy a local jarred sauce that we really like, and it's about $3 - but I can make about 4 pizzas with it. Same deal with pepperoni. Maybe 2 pizzas with pre-shredded cheese. I think the dough is actually the highest cost per pizza for me. But I agree, if you're going with the "supreme", it wouldn't be anywhere near $5.

Everyone should heed these words of wisdom! There is still nothing better than having your favorite pizza place deliver a fresh from the oven one right to your front door.

r.

You are correct if you make pizza often. I don't make it more than maybe once a month and the sauce would go moldy and the meat and cheese would not last that long--I can freeze italian sausage. I do use goat cheese on my pizzas quite often and that tends to last a while. So if I am buying everything new for each pizza I can't amortize the prices. But then the time to shop, prep (chop) and make and to clean up is still there. I love homeade pizza but it is not something that I just whip up like I would a peanut butter sandwich. Sometimes I want thai chicken pizza and that is not something I have stuff on hand for or my beloved pastrami pizza.

I tried a new taco/burrito place for lunch. It turned into a combination of lunch/dinner because the burrito was so large I didn't even eat half of it and I don't want to think about food tonight.

Last night dinner:
Salmon with potatoes & EVO
leftover pork roast with tomatoes

Nice, a Chicago style burrito...some places here advertise "as big as a football" and others "as big as your head". It's Chicago's drunk food. My favorite is the head-size place. And the good places don't add rice or potatoes. I like to trick myself by ordering tacos instead. The 3 tacos in the offer have to be about the same total size as the burrito, but I feel better about it.

mapo tofu (with days-old cooked steak instead of ground meat)
purple rice

There’s also the time to fetch the pizza plus related cleaning of dishes etc unless using paper/compost disposables. I’m lucky to have a dishwasher machine.
I don’t shop for pizza ingredients only - I’m also getting other groceries. Conversely The pizza store fetching usually lacks other meals that we are also fetching at that moment.

It’s fine if my spouse wants to get pizza carryout or delivery - I’m too Stockholm syndromed and I love my own pizza. If I’m going to spend money on carryout of my choice, I want it to be Chinese or sushi because I can’t cook either of them. Now that The Slayer is vaccinated, I’ll email them and take them to ramen for luncheon. They’re a good egg and deserve to be treated to many meals with me.

Occasionally I'm tempted, and it's always a disappointment. Using your scale, I'm reminded every time I have bbq pizza, it's always a 5 and I could have had at least a 7 or 8 if I would have stuck to a more traditional pizza. It can never be a 10.
Where I find the most variability in the 5-10 scale is with taco pizza. .. I'm fairly certain every slice was about 5000 calories, and I could eat 3 when I was 18 years old.

glad you love your taco pizza. I love tacos and I love pizza.
my spouse loves CPK bbq chicken pizza
at OGG, I love the CPK pepperoni pizza. If we go to CPK when we stay in carmel, I can get pepperoni or some other dish that’s nice.

Fond memories of La Bamba's burritos "as big as your head" while a student at tOSU.

My personal favorite were the little corn quesadillas topped with refried beans, lettuce, onions, and hot sauce.

LOL, it was like the burritos I'd get in college. They were billed as burritos as big as your head.

I don't remember if that was the name of the place at PSU, but that was their slogan as well.

Breakfast was coffee and yogurt - Icelandic Provisions peach and cloudberry skyr.

lunch was the Roman salad with chicken, as a sandwich, from Montes Fine Foods. It’s really good greens and chicken in a delicious garlicky dressing wrapped in a mini version of their pizza dough.

I was going to order a pizza for dinner but then decided to use stuff in the pantry so I’m making a variant of beans and rice. Brown rice cooked in veggie stock in the rice cooker. Can of kidney beans, can of diced tomatoes, sautéed kielbasa, garlic, onion. Should be good. And there will be leftovers.

Debating wine or beer but not sure I feel like booze (what’s wrong with me?!).

I saw on the news the other day an Australian goat farmer is doing freeze dried feta (using goat's milk) with a shelf life of 18 months and it apparently tastes good. It was a small scale farmer who at the start of the pandemic had her orders go to zero and needed some way to preserve her cheese.

I made an arugula beet salad today with too much stuff. I shouldn’t have added the the vegetables I fridge pickled.

As long as it's not a Fast Food Pizza like Domino's, Pizza Hut, Marco's, Papa John's or any other place that uses a conveyor style oven. It has to come from a traditional oven whether it be coal/wood fired or one that cooks on a stone type surface.
