Slow roasted chicken, potato, acorn squash, and whole garlic cloves for lunch today.
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...67cc64433.jpeg Stuffed, seasoned, and ready for the toaster oven. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...67864591c.jpeg Kalboz That’s impressive. Makes me want to shop at Safeway now, but the two stores are across town, not at all convenient for delivery. |
Those parathas look nice from TJ’s. I fell in love with real parathas after we visited Sri Lanka a few years back. Although I doubt they will be close to the real thing, I should check them out.

unbleached wheat flour, cow's milk, buffalo's milk, corn oil, sugar, salt, baking powder (sodium bicarbonate, wheat starch, calcium phosphate). |
Anyone remember Aplets and Cotlets?
I read on Eater Seattle the 100 year old family-run company has decided to close in June if a buyer isn’t found, so I went to their website and bought a variety of products. This one is the irregular odds and ends pieces that don’t fit the standard size and shape. Aplets and Cotlets remind me of my grandparents who seemed to always have a box on the kitchen table. https://seattle.eater.com/2021/3/18/...hards-cashmere https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...58926cb87.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...91f4ed203.jpeg |

Plenty availability of affordable ethnic and quality groceries in Southern California. Plus, as a FT hobbyist (miles & points), I keep up with the local store sales and specials on the app (no coupon clipping). For instance, in the current Monopoly games at Vons and other stores, we have actually won at least $100 in actual money deducted from our grocery bill and the game still ongoing until mid-May or thereabouts. For our family of 4, we never go over our monthly out-of-pocket grocery budget of $800 and we eat good! :)

Thank you - I eschewed monopoly because it felt like clutter so now I can imagine starting to collect the monopoly cards and using them with the Safeway (vons Sf) app.

I don't bother trying to fill a stupid monopoly card...way too much hassle . I just open the pieces looking for free stuff...which reminds me that Von's didn't give me any today. I was preoccupied with pointing out they rang something up wrong & forgot to ask.

My wife: Why did you bring home a big container of Morton table salt? We have plenty. Me: Because it lasts forever and it was free. Wife: ummm, ok. She doesn't get it. :) |
Spaghetti al aglio e olio (garlic and oil) for breakfast today.
ETA: a pink lady and Mt Tam for dessert. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...d3b684bb6.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...5145532bc.jpeg |
Honestly some of you eat so well at home I need meal planning lessons.

boiled chicken stew (with jalapeño) with purple rice
added some $8 “red jalapeño” hot sauce from front porch. It’s so mediocre that I’m just buying Tabasco at this point, esp having seen a video about McElheny and Tabasco. They look so great in the video. How Front Porch (who have a bucket of fried chicken that I want to get in May or June) is selling a tasteless $8 hot sauce is beyond disappointment. I love eating at their restaurant so it’s so shocking that the hot sauce isn’t great. Sigh.

Had a beetroot sandwich today. The last time I had one must've been 20 years ago. The whitest bread, so much butter and beetroot. Wow.
