I need to find that cottage cheese. I went to the big Whole Foods today (huge store) and they didn't have it. They carry a few CC cheeses and they have about 10 kinds of cottage cheese but not Cowgirl. I have to start calling some cheese shops now.

I ordered it through my grocery delivery service, Imperfect Foods. CC's website doesn't have a product/store locator. :(

I opened a new cheese from my box delivery today, Ragged Point from Stepladder Creamery near Cambria. It smells 'bloomy' all right, a little like freezer burn or a little fishy. Mt Tam didn't smell at all and they call that 'bloomy' as well. I ended up eating and not removing the Ragged Point rind and it was fine. It's noticeably softer and saltier than Mt Tam.

I don't normally eat so much dairy, but having these artisanal cheese options pique my curiosity and are hard to resist.

This weekend, I’m going to have a great Marinara challenge. Going to put the new Carbone’s against Rao’s and Bertolli’s in a blind taste test. Just the sauce on top of plain pasta. I’ll let you know the results!

I bought a dragon fruit for the first time through my grocery box delivery service. I’d only ever had it in hotel breakfasts. It was easy peasy cutting it after watching a how-to video.

Tonight was street concert night so snacky foods.

smoked sausage (which tasted like hot dogs)
honey and chipotle mustard

Spinach, artichoke dip (store bought but excellent ) in individual bread bowls made from wheat Kaiser rolls. I served it hot. This was a hit--I saw it in a magazine .

corky Wow, what an impressive spread! Where did you buy the spinach artichoke dip? I haven't had that in decades. Now I want it.

The first hiccup happened in the Great Marinara Challenge.

I opened the box of four bottled sauces from Carbone that I got in on Wednesday. Upon opening the box there was an obvious problem.

Dragonfruit is good. I like the purple flesh variety the most. I’ve never eaten it in the US.

Costco! I was planning on making it because I like to do things from scratch but I saw the tub at Costco for $7.99 & I remembered sampling it back when they did that. I talked myself out of the hassle of dealing with the frozen spinach etc.and glad I did as this was as good as I make it.
I hadnt had it in ages either but I saw the individual bread bowls & it gave me the idea. I served it warm but you can keep it cold . I am going to test freezing a little because it is a big container.

where you planning on opening all 4 jars and side by side blind tasting ? I guess the competition will be narrowed down to 3.

Oof, that's a bummer. I hope their customer service is good. I had to look up Carbone. Never heard of them, but it seems they're a pretty big deal, esp in the NBA circles.

I was really hoping for a yellow one as shown on the product page, but the description said I would receive white or red flesh fruit, and it is also grown in the US. It was $4.99 two weeks ago, down from $5.99 and I finally said, "What the heck. Why not?" My last shopping window was Monday-Tuesday and dragon fruit was not offered. Lots of items are hit and miss due to Imperfect Foods' nature. If there's no surplus, it isn't available. But that's also what makes IF fun, the anticipation of what I have to choose from.

Ooh, good to know it's a Costco product. I can't imagine it's going to thaw well if it has mayonnaise or sour cream ingredients, but please let us know how it goes.

The manufacturer is Stonemill Kitchens. I went on their website and they don't recommend freezing as the texture etc will suffer (as you would expect because of the ingredients you mention) but I put a little in a zip bag and will try thawing it in the fridge slowly in a month or so just to see if it is really bad or can maybe be doctored up with additional parm or mayo etc. I will report my results!

I was a fan of Rao's until I discovered Gino Angelini. He is a great chef and has a restaurant in Los Angeles.

No, only one Carbone Marinara for taste testing. I had the Rao and Bertolli already.

They’ve offered to send a replacement bottle or refund the broken bottle. Not sure what I’m going to get.

post-vaccination injection celebration at Millbrae Pancake House
chocolate chip pancakes
buckwheat pancakes
chicken Apple breakfast sausages
california omelette with egg whites - bacon, avocado, pico de Gallo with hash browns and 2 buttermilk pancakes; first pork bacon in months. Quite excellent.

I really need better guidance on making hash browns - I think I’m not draining the starch or something like that. Gotta Google or check New Best Recipe book.
