I would have thought that would calm down the unruly kids. Next time skip the beaten egg. :D

I steamed beets and marinated them overnight in balsamic vinegar, the juice of half an orange, and pepper.

Does this turn them into something that doesn't taste like beets? If so, I would probably try a bite :).

Sorry, it does not. I didn't acquire a taste for beets till my 40s, so maybe there's still hope for you yet.

When someone can make them not taste like dirt, I might give them a shot.

Considering I'm almost done with that decade, I think all hope is lost.
But you made me think if there's anything else that I didn't like until my 40s...that seems late. I think my adult diet was pretty much set by the time I hit early 30s. Might be an interesting idea for a thread. If I think of something, maybe I'll start one!

Lemon season in Arizona. Lemon puddin' cake.

We've had lemon meltaway cookies, Lemon Ricotta Cookies (a la Nordstrom Cafe - yum), Lemon curd, Lemon Mousse, Lemon bars, Lemon French toast bake, Lemon blueberry cream cheese French toast, Lemon blueberry scones, lemon sheet cake with lemon buttercream frosting and, to keep it healthy, lemon roasted vegetables.;) Thankfully, I recently discovered that you can freeze whole lemons.

My neighbors have two lemon trees and one orange, so I always have at least a half dozen lemons on hand. I've intended to make (eggless) lemon curd for a month, and now that I have 1.5 pints of blueberries, I will make compote as well. I did not know lemons could be frozen. I need to google that!

I also acquired a taste for melons, like cantaloupe, honeydew, etc in my 40s. Maybe you're a late bloomer and there's hope in your 50s. :D

I felt the same way, tasted dirt, but something in me changed and I love them now.

no limoncello? I usually make that every year but this year I made orangecello from the bounty from friend's trees....very nice change. I am out of the bags of lemons I was given a month or so ago (other than the whole ones in the freezer) so have to go begging.

My neighbor makes limoncello and gives it to me. She's having a backyard party in a couple of weeks for neighbors who are vaccinated. She makes great limoncello martinis. :)

Post-passagiata luncheon:
charcuterie sandwich on rustic baguette with arugula and Bomba sauce; hopefully artichoke hearts
raw carrots / celery

hey what’s everyone’s take on raw zucchini? I think of zucchini as a cooking vegetable. Or is it a fruit since it has those little seeds?

how long do you steam them? I love beets and haven’t steamed them. Just oven and boiled; I prefer oven. I’m the only one who eats them and I love them in salad yet I want to cook them and not buy pre-cooked beets.

Nice!! Our Meyer lemon tree is super sadly limited with production. Mega sigh.

Fruit :).
I don't seek them out no matter how they're cooked. However, I prefer them cooked and hidden in something like a sauce or soup. If I remember correctly, I've had raw zucchini sticks a few times on a "veggie" tray, and don't remember thinking they were particularly bad.

My cousin brought me a bag of about 3 dozen. Partner was given another 3 dozen Lisbons by a co-worker. It finally got warm. Time for some Splenda (guilt free) lemonade!

You & I might be able to go out to eat together . No beets and hold the zucchini. They are edible if breaded and fried and dipped in something. I can eat them if hidden in a soup but not if they are the star of the dish and I would eat raw (just to be polite) if served with a ton of ranch or similar dip.

I am the same way about Celery, especially cooked celery. Most places that cook their own soups put celery in them, and I just don't like the texture/ flavor of celery itself. Now I don't mind the flavor it adds to the soups, but I will pick it out of the soup as I eat it if it's included.
