Salted caramel cookies. Great for the teeth! Tried these artisanal mochi for the first time too . The peach ones are sweeter . Forgot to take photos of opened ones ! After carefully opening the delicate pretty wrapper , just wanted to savour them & popped them right in ! And for one who does not usually eat mochi too .. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...c5e1c3e1a.jpeg Macha https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...07f3fedba.jpeg Momo ( peach ) |
Mapo tofu (still not tingly enough - I might be overcooking the Szechuan peppercorns or the jar I bought wasn’t good)
white rice bok choy (not bbc because I’ve actually found organic bok choy at a lower cost than Costco bbc) spouse’s leftover supermarket sushi https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...455f8f535.jpeg |

could you get rice if desired? Or is Thailand like China, where rice has a stigma? I only went to bkk in 1988!
Kin = eat Kao = rice |

No stigma, it was just not included in the photo. Rice is so essential in Thailand that when you call on the family or anyone else to eat any meal, you say, "Kin Kao" which literary means "eat rice"!
Kin = eat Kao = rice Sf has a nice thai restaurant called Kin Khao! Maybe it’s the same as Kin Kao! |

thanks - so it’s included with your tea set? It wasnt on the menu.

So far Gloucester cheddar , mini baguette , sourdough toast , persimmon , pineapple , iced coconut water , iced latte with coffee ice cubes as usual .
Ice cream to follow in a bit , trying to decide on flavours and number of scoops to indulge in ! https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...8b0fa57c9.jpeg Some of the tubs |

Sf has a nice thai restaurant called Kin Khao! Maybe it’s the same as Kin Kao! Kin Khao is owned by Pim Techamuanvivit who also owns Nari - she has been a prolific blogger for years and posted many authentic and wonderful Thai recipes before her current incarnation -her recipe for Pad Thai can still be found by a search from when she was blogging as chezpim. https://web.baz.org/adam/recipes/pad_thai_for_be.html She is an incredibly gifted writer as well as chef, etc. She also took over as chef for a one Michelin star restaurant in Bangkok a short while ago until covid hit and was commuting btwn SF and BKK - at the time she had recently opened Nari (which is now doing take out) a much larger and upscale place than Kin Khao . Im sure she is well aware of the use of the greeting which is commonly used as a greeting - sort of meaning have you eaten yet - but not literally ;) If you want to find out about an amazing chef/woman/writer you can see some of her recent postings on twitter and her recent interview regarding the difficulty of owning/running a restaurant in these times. How is rice a stigma in China????? |

How is rice a stigma in China????? we all are in San Francisco :-) china / rice - all I’ll say is that business meals with exporters and factory owners and agents didn’t include rice. Mega sigh. This was 1992-2006; I haven’t returned since early 2007 and I’m hoping to never return. China, HK, Taiwan. |

yes, I’ve been to Nari and Kin khao. Or I’ve been to the bar above Nari.

Wow I can't imagine eating chinese w/o rice and when I was there (as a tourist) it certainly was omnipresent in the restaurants - but they were many cuts below the places I imagine you ate :D
I’ve almost always had rice with chinese food so this was a weird experience that I can’t forget, like the live drunken shrimps :-) |
