Tonight it was gallettes with jambon blanc and gruyere, served with a mache salad. Delicious but oh to be in Brittany!

Mmm, I love mache. I can't remember the last time I've seen it on the store shelves.

In honor of the British residents of Schengen countries concerned with getting Schengen country passport stamps in their UK passports, I decided to have chicken tikka masala. It will be tik.

I guess the servings are bigger as well. Is that all up or before tax+tip?

I do love a sandwich. I would say I eat one 5-6x/week for lunch.

I agree that at a sit down restaurant where you are getting fries and a drink $11 is not out of line. It seems high for a grab and go place for one person.

That's not what I wrote though. I said with fries, it's more like $15. A drink would bring the total higher.

It wouldn't be unusual to see a really good sandwich go between $9-$12 before tax and tip. I wouldn't tip for takeout. Tax here in the Chicago area would add approximately 10%. I just checked that hot dog joint I mentioned in my previous post for sandwich prices, without fries, before tax. Burgers range from $8.39 - $11.29. More range on other sandwiches - anywhere between $7 to $14. This is basically a counter service place in a strip mall, nothing fancy. Checking a sit-down mid-range restaurant (local, but similar menu to Chili's or Friday's), a sandwich + fries runs $13-$15. Another $3 for a soft drink.

I wouldn't consider either of these places "must-go", or "gourmet". Just typical restaurants in the area. I'd expect the SF Bay area to be the same or more expensive than here.

$11 for a sandwich in Scottsdale sounds right - esp in winter for the snowbirds :-)
wonder how much that thin white pizza costs these days. I also loved the sweet ice cream shop place.

Just made something that I haven't had since I don't remember the decade (although probably sometime within 20 years) - home stovetop popped popcorn. I saw some Rancho Gordo popcorn in a bag, and voila, bought it, and it does pop up lovely, without a single kernel that didn't at least pop somewhat. I sprinkled a bit of granulated garlic and shredded parm on it. Nice afternoon snack.

Ham & cucumber walnut bread sandwich with thick spread of butter !

Trying to recall type of ham - likely honey baked ..

Decided to try Chipotle’s new cauliflower rice tonight. Big mistake. It was so salty it was inedible. And I paid extra for the experience.

Paid extra how? Were you going to eat somewhere else that was cheaper? Order something that was cheaper? I'm not quite following your comment.
