La Boulangerie de San Francisco (not the chain restaurant) Super Flaky Croissant Toast with jarred pesto sauce. Coming to this thread reminded me I still have the Diestal ham in the fridge, so the second slice will be with pesto and ham.
but it is a local chain - I think they still have more than 1 location. I still don’t fully comprehend what SBUX actually kept after buying and then selling it for less money. I once saw the founder/seller/owner Pascal at the west portal location (which later became a Lemonade) - he was helping a staffer with the citizenship test. Super sweet to see. I’ve been enjoying this chain for almost 20 years and still have to point out the original Pine Street location to my family. |
I was at Trader Joe's this morning, and tempted by the Chile Verde Chicken Enchiladas, but ultimately decided I might eat the whole thing in one sitting, so I got the Spicy Posole Verde and a Southwest Salad instead. Not bad...

lol that’s what I bought today, to make (reheat) for tonight’s supper. I intentionally had a tiny luncheon so that I can have this. Family feast night! |

I went back to TJs this afternoon, and picked up a couple packs of enchiladas, a couple containers of chili, shredded mexican cheese, chips, guac, salsa, and a 6-pack of the Joseph Brau Pilsner (b/c I think TJ brand Mexican Beer is undrinkable).

gorgeous! I still feel challenged about having rice and chicken for breakfast. Reminds me of seeing a guy with eggs and French fries for breakfast in New York - maybe with a steak? The fries looked weird to me but of course I often had fries (chips) as part of my English breakfast in London in 2003.

My daughter usually have the Western fare of eggs/omelettes, pancakes, waffles, cereal, etc. I figure that I didn't fly half way across the globe and spent 15 days in quarantine to eat stuff I can have at home. Truth to be told, I even veer off the norms when at home ;)

I do enjoy trying different breakfasts when traveling, especially in Asia. But if I had to pick only one for the rest of my life, health and weight aside, it would probably be a good old "full English breakfast". Second would probably be American Southern-style. |

I would love that breakfast. You'd see me dipping the fries into my over-easy eggs!

definitely true about adapting to the local culture and cuisine. A big favorite breakfast at home is styled on what I ate in Nuernberg when i went for work and stayed with the same local family for years (they even came to my wedding in Italy). That breakfast included great salamis, which I’m currently not having... but boy that was always so enjoyable. As much as I love dim sum, I’ve not yet cooked it for breakfast for myself. I’m still not one to enjoy Asian dim sum with coffee.

i was about 10 when I saw the guy with the breakfast including fries - but no doubt that I would now enjoy it. I don’t cook much of a fry brunch now and it might be good to reinstate during winter - perhaps hash browns or oven fries instead of fried French fries, and grilled chicken sausage for family and evergood for me.
This translated to normal breakfasts & not the “ full hog “ on cruises or even at AMANs , etc .. which come in courses - waves .. whole fresh coconut , different fresh juices , freshly cut fruits of various climes , salads , possibly dim sum & cjok / porridge , noodles .. , prata , baked eggs & other specialties , etc . Sometimes the whole works - like English breakfast with cooked cut oats , kippers , breakfast steak , bacon , sausage , mushrooms .. omelette or scrambled eggs .. |
