Thank you for posting this.

Were you able to get either of your kids to try the tripe? My 8 year old tried tripe for the first time last night in a bowl of Pho. She asked what it was and we told her it was a 'meat noodle' :D

We have a family trip planned to Florence in November, and I'm interested in any recommendations you have. Or at least more food pics :tu:

Tripes has to be boiled for at least 2 hours before final preparations - we cook it home but our kids won't touch it! But here all the food tastes better - my wife cooked some chicken liver yesterday and they were absolotely phenomenal.

The one I posted above is very well known and highly rated despit the fact he operates on a street corner in the historic center. You gotta get to him early as he will run out of Trippa Fiorentina. But then again in November you won't see the crowds we currently experiencing - streets are packed with people, mostly Italians, until the early hours of the morning.

I will keep you updated on our culinary progress ...

Marriott residence inn buffet - our suite has a kitchen and I look forward to grocery shopping. The coffee was really gross.

Bonchon

My wife and daughters went to a nieces birthday, way on the other side of the valley. I stayed at the JW Marriott, our current staycation hotel.

They stopped at Bonchon, the Korean fried chicken place, and I got some leftovers. Some nice chicken drumsticks, bulgogi fried rice, onion rings and fries. All tasted pretty good!

Red split lentil soup today. I used coconut milk for the very first time. What should I do with the leftover half can? Preferably something that doesn’t involve curry or soup.

Good stuff! When I worked in lower Manhattan their location on John Street became an after work hangout spot. Cold beer and a mixture of spicy and sweet wings. Good times.

I freeze leftover coconut milk or buttermilk. It freezes fine and is a tiny bit watery when it thaws but no big deal. I use it a lot in marinades but never use the whole can. I pour it in a ziploc bag.
BTW, I had the Cowgirl cottage cheese this morning . I love the taste but not the texture enough to pay extra to buy it again. I prefer small curd and creamier.

Lockdown lunch...

15 hour brined chicken, butterflied and cooked over coals. Served with my peri peri sauce, a simple salad and crusty bread.

I brined the chicken in beer, brandy, white wine, garlic and bay leaves.

Today is ice cream day? So, I made an executive decision for everyone in the family to have ice cream sundaes for breakfast. My daughter was thrilled, anyway.

Mrs BV made a dozen cupcakes two weeks ago. I don’t eat them so she ended up eating two cupcakes for breakfast all week.
