I'd suggest leaving you wallet back at the hotel as well...

+1 Except I suggest you leave your entire self in the U.S.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I will see how advantageous I will be feeling once I finally get to SAN.

I will be in SAN Tuesday 10/14 to Friday 10/17

I have an afternoon flight out of LAX on Saturday 10/18 so I am going back up to Friday afternoon/evening to avoid any unpredictable California traffic. Well that and I needed one more starwood stay to qualify for Plat.

I am working like a dog to pay for this trip. I had no idea Southern California was going to be so expensive. I have one day off between today and Oct 14, when I head out to CA. Thank goodness for unlimited overtime due to current staffing issues.

Tijuana is that bad and there is very little to nothing redeeming about it. Unless you're heading down into Baja a ways (think Ensenada), there is nothing there. TJ is for 18 year old kids who can't drink in the US.

Also, two hours to get from LAX to San Diego on a weekday afternoon is a bit of a pipe dream. I would move that closer to three hours unless you find no traffic, which is almost unheard of. You'll have issues on the 405 and 5 south is often a nightmare until you get out of Orange County.

San Diego has enough stuff to do that you don't need to go to TJ. Check out the Zoo, or the Wild Animal Park, or any of the other local attractions.

I think I am going to try to go to TJ for the day, or at least a few hours when I am in San Diego. Anyone have any idea on the best way to get down there, is there a train or a bus I can take from downtown San Diego?

I will have a rental car, but I do not want to drive into Mexico. I am going to be staying at the 4P Sheraton and they offer a free shuttle within 6 miles of the hotel, so I am going to try to leave the car at the hotel and take advantage of that if possible. The hotel is located near I-805 (Indian Frwy) and CA-163 (Cabrillo Frwy)

I am flying into LAX and will drive down to San Diego after attending a taping of Chelsea Lately up in L.A on a Tuesday afternoon. I mapped the driving out for 125 miles estimating it at 2 hours. How realistic is that? I would probably head down to San Diego after 3:30pm on a Tuesday.

Sorry for asking thirty questions.

I too would avoid TJ. But if you really want to go, take the Trolley down to San Ysidro (end of line) and then walk across the street. (Yes, it drops you off right at the border.) The Qualcomm or Fashion Valley stops should be within six miles of the hotel. Or, you can drive down to the Old Town station, parking is free, and ride the trolley from there.

As for driving down from LA, hang out in LA until about 6:30pm before you start driving. If you can get out of LA/Hollywood by 2pm, then you're good, but if you're really not going to leave until 3:30pm, then wait it out otherwise you're looking at a drive of 3-4 hours.

For those of you who want a case of sticker shock, wander into Platinum Collection on 6th Street between J and K. I was in there the other night and it was just surreal to see what people buy and what they pay for it. There's also a really cool cafe that does a great breakfast on the NE corner of Island 2nd (I think, could be 3rd).

Shoot me a PM if you want to do a mini box DO. My schedule is kinda nutty with work, but I can break for a beer - or 5.

Anyone else in the SoCal area then?

+1 to that! I don't know how I'd make it through the day without iTunes and/or Pandora.

Nice! Now you just need to find a way to get there. :)

I'm also trying to pass time with StumbleUpon. Unfortunately, I have not found anything of interest.
