This is very true for EWR. If you look at the flights today EWR - SAN, there are about 20 people on the upgrade lists and only two got upgrades. The rest of the seats were paid F. However, if you can route through IAH, your upgrade chances are MUCH higher. I see flights regularly with ten or more people upgraded.

Trying to convince the SBH to hop on the e-saver to BDA this weekend. Would be almost guaranteed upgrades for both of us, both ways. Plus, you know, weekend in Bermuda.

But it would make her miss work on Monday. Which might not go over so well considering the school year just started. :o

I figure no IFE. I have booked in L class all the way through. As a gold is it possible for EUAs on this segment (738 w/ either 4 or 5 rows of F)?

You will have a semi-decent chance on the redeye, and probably a better chance on the IAH-SAN. I wouldn't sweat it too much if you're doing these on a Saturday.

Transcon redeyes generally serve a snack (i.e., more than just a cold plate). In my experiences this year, it has been the burger. I am on a transcon redeye this weekend and will post back if they serve something other than the burger.

The politics in a getting a job is whole different ball game, where one school gets preference over others, but I guess that is career-wide.

In my law school experience, I found that the vast majority of professors, whether right or left-leaning, did not dwell on politics or let politics overshadow their classes.

On a completely unrelated note, I was thinking about CO and the cuts. If they are so dead-set on making/saving money, why not abandon the plans for the new IFE and inflight internet? Strip that junk down and focus on providing good, comfortable, and reliable service.

LiveTV/JetBlue is footing almost all the cost for the services. CO will have to deal with the added weight and flying it around the world, but they won't be paying much if anything out of pocket for the gear. Cutting in-flight duty free would be another place that I think they'd be able to save money, but what do I know.

I was looking at that one, too. Sadly, the missus starts a new job on Monday, so not a very good chance of convincing her to miss her very first day.

Ditto. There's more politics at my present law school than what I experienced at Edinburgh, but it's hardly noticeable. Besides, you're essentially being schooled in how to formulate your own ideas in a coherent and persuasive manner. Extra points if you can beat the Prof. at his/her own game...

I think you said you were flying on Saturday, which is generally a good day for an EUA. It's generally the only day of the week (unless you're on 1827) that a EUA is somewhat consistent.

To say that "SFO and LAX are the legendarily difficult ones" is an understatement. Even on full Y those are becoming more and more rare. Every once in a while when the moon is in the right alignment, Smith Street has a clear view of the full moon and EWR has no ground delay, an EUA may clear.

So tempting, yet i'm flying into EWR for the weekend on Friday.

Interesting, the EWR-LGW flight on 10/24 is a 764.

Saturday night redeye should have decent chances for an EUA, or maybe a battlefield upgrade.

So... do I pull the trigger on a 32GB iPod touch? $399 isn't too bad.

Do I just get an iPhone and pony out the dough for service out of pocket and resume the three cell phone he11?

Or do I buy a chair?

... what I really want is for the next gen of the Mac Book Air.

(Sorry to start another Mac discussion in the box.)

ConciergeMike Sep 9, 2008 12:51 pm

iPod - I hear they're all the rage now.

First time in a while that I've seen Hertz significantly cheaper than National. Looks like I'll be renting Ford Fusions in coming weeks.

I have noticed this too, to some degree. National has raised its prices, as of late.

Works for me. I only need 4 more rentals to retain Hertz 5*, and have National Executive through 2010. Also, my Hertz points balance is just under 1500 (which would be enough for a free weekend rental). I might as well requalify for 5* (just in case), and close out my points balance at the same time.

I just made National Executive Elite.
