Anyone ever done this flight before? Too bad I don't do FlightMemory, this is a gem.

I had a chance to fly that but I turned it down , and went for a CO 777 to FRA instead.

She's used to the standard-issue 7-day family vacation and I'm out to break that idea. This trip in September is the first time she's connecting. I think I'll repeat that: This trip in September is the first time she's connecting.

She protests the way I plan trips (morning flights out, late flights home, somewhat structured ideas about what to do once there so there's no wasted time) because she always went on vacation to do nothing and relax. I despise doing nothing somewhere else because I can do that at home and have more fun.

Oh yeah, you better train her ,start out slow , then move her up to an ALCO style routing

Since you have obviously been to Victoria...any suggestions on things to do? I am spending a day there next month (arriving by sea plane in the AM and taking the ferry back to Vancouver in the afternoon) and so far all that I have planned is a visit to Butchart Gardens. Suggestions for a lunch location would be appreciated as well.

Butchart should take an hour or two, depending on how long you dawdle (it's absolutely stunning). Afternoon Tea at the Empress begins at noon, and runs about $60CAD. The Empress is right on the Harbour, which is beautiful, and also adjacent to the B.C. Parliament. Next to the Parliament is the B.C. Museum, which has plenty to see (lots of exhibits re Native American culture). You can also snag a ride on one of the Harbour Ferries to get a better view of the waterfront (great opportunity for snapping photos).

I wish I could recall the name of the fantastic restaurant I dined at on the Harbour-front. It's just past the Empress, in the corner of the Harbour across from the Parliament. They had fantastic local Micro-Brews, great food, and a spectacular view.

A BAe Jetstream 31 is certainly a rare pickup. ^ Who operated that flight?

US Air Express.

http://www.gib.ca/index.php - their beer has no preservatives, and I have sung their praises in this space before. Granville is a must-do.

I dropped hints the other day that the Honeymoon may involve South Asian carriers of dubious lineage. The response was somewhat tepid. It's okay. She doesn't know a 747 from an A320. If I tell her that the One Two Go 747-100SR is a brand new Spaceship from Virgin Galactic, she'll believe me. :D

Yep. That's the beer I had in that photo from the Harbour-front restaurant. Awesome stuff.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I saw the picture of your Hefeweizen and definitely wanted to know where it was consumed. :) I'll have to look for the place.

It's a shame that their Midwest Connect subsidiary that operated Do328 Jet aircraft wend out of business back in April. The only option left for catching a ride on a DoJet is Hainan Airlines, and their present order for over 100 EMBs doesn't look promising for their future...

No kidding! I would have loved to have flown the Do328. It wasn't that long ago that they were fairly common too. Even one of the DL Connection carriers was flying them out of BOS around 2001-2002.

Until she gets a look at the plane,
then you can teach her what an equiment swap is

I second Victoria as a suggestion! It's definitely worth the trip.

She will be an M.D. by then. I'll get her to write me a prescription for Xanax, then share it with her to stave off a panic attack.

Sounds fun. Which route are you flying?

Mine is just about there too - she is concerned about getting there in a financially and chronologically efficient manner and not too much else. I can't imagine what would happen if I convince her to take a bump. It'll be more pleasant than the story with my father, almost solely because the promise of further free travel for a small inconvenience in the short term will be a selling point for her.

EWR - FRA op'ed on behalf of LH.

Good call! @:-)

I might have to use that trick on the SBH when she's expecting to get on a widebody to cross the Atlantic and she sees a 737 in bizarro LX livery parked at our gate. :D

Little different than a 747SP with leopard print interiors on One, Two, Go, though.

You're very much welcome. Beware of preservative-free beer: no noticeable aftertaste. Goes down as easy as apple juice.
