1. It needs to be someone else's hub.
2. It needs a fueling system.
3. It needs to not be in Philadelphia, as many of their delays are out of their hands.

Add to that list that it needs a complete tear down of several of the nastier concourses, especially the ones with inadequate security screening facilities, and a redesign of the ramps and taxiways so that aircraft can get to and from gates without blocking each other. I've seen major traffic jams at PHL caused by multiple planes trying to push back while others are trying to taxi to their gates. There's just simply not enough space between most of the concourses to keep traffic moving.

The only way I see PHL not being a dump is to bomb it until it's reduced to tiny pieces of rubble, and then start completely from scratch.

But it is using a free ticket. And I am getting a new airport and three new routes on my map. And possibly four new aircraft registration numbers.

Damn you, FlightMemory. You're worse than crack.

PHL needs more than three things, my friend. I'd add:

1. A replacement for the circa-1970 baggage system that gets bags out in less than an hour.
2. A wrecking ball to take out (at least) Terminal D.
3. Employees who don't absolutely despise their job, company, life, city, etc.

I'm sure there are more, but I haven't been through PHL since January so my mind is a little rusty. :)

EDIT: Looks like ssullivan beat me to some of these items... :D

Ya know, with the invention of the Business Select fare and their revamping of the boarding process, WN isn't nearly as bad as it used to be. I had to fly SAN - MCI a couple of weeks ago and the company actually allows us to book our own WN flights instead of going through our deplorable travel agent. I booked the BS fare and got A 01 and, because I picked flights that originated in SAN and MCI on the return, I was the first person on the plane. I had my choice of bulkhead or exit row, and I chose bulkhead since I am 6'8" and don't like anyone in front of me, reclining or not. Anywho, I was pleasantly surprised and had no issues with the WN product or service.

Tell me about it. Despite my harassing your choice of WN, I was actually considering using them (at an inconvenient flight time) for JAN-MCO in September, simply because I think JAN-MCO-IAH would look better on my FlightMemory map than JAN-DFW-IAH.

This is very true. And I love what they're doing with their gate areas, with comfortable PC-esque leather lounge chairs with built-in 120v and USB charging outlets, work stations with high tables, plenty of outlets (again including USB) and bar stools, and separate kids and family areas with toys to keep the children away from the business travelers and those who'd prefer not to have somebody else's precious angel yelling and screaming in their ear.

I'm flying DAL-STL-CMH-STL-HOU tomorrow on WN simply because it's far more interesting than the ho-hum DAL/DFW-IAH/HOU flights I've done half a million times.

You've got to admit — ATL to Houston via MKE, DFW, DAL, STL, CMH, and STL again on two airlines is far more interesting than my usual CO ATL-IAH routing. And I'm doing all this weekend's flying for a lot less than what I would have paid CO for a nonstop flight, since it's using up the last of my YX miles and a WN Rapid Rewards ticket.

I just discovered My Virtual Flights via an OMNI post. It's thoroughly silly, but looks promisingly addictive.

I enjoy non-traditional routings as well. On the aforementioned SAN - MCI flight, I flew SAN - ABQ - DAL - MCI all on the same aircraft, never having to actually change aircraft. Three separate flight deck crews and two different cabin crews, with two total new lines on my flightmemory.

Um, that link takes me to the location of The Flying Saucer in Downtown Houston.

Oh wait, are you talking about flights of beer?

I was being charitable. I do agree with the above and the below. But the airport isn't at the top of the list as far as the city is concerned. They're much more preoccupied with the performance of the Eagles and the Phillies and the Phlyers. The one thing that is going somewhat good for them is the redevelopment of where the Spectrum is...I forget the name of the project, but it looks really purty.

Philly is a very odd place. Its misery is palpable, both in the people and the city itself. That is a direct reflection of the sports failure and its heavy blue-collar populace associating sport with life success. (My real name is Frasier Crane.) Also, the airport being downwind to a sewage plant doesn't help much. Insert droppings joke here.

Also, the city government is famously ineffective regarding almost anything that doesn't have to do with the sports teams. You know it's fun to be in city politics when a Philly PD bug sweep of the mayor's office turns up FBI bugs. True story. :o

As much as I hate Philthydelphia on so many levels, you can't argue with some of the attractions and our impending gathering. I'll just shower when I come back from the Cheesesteak Do...wash the Philly right off me.

My job this week has consisted of watching a blue status bar crawl across the computer screen on various dialogs as I move data from one system to another. On the plus side, I'm getting paid to do it and I can still post on FlyerTalk. On the down side it is mind-numbingly boring. Ugghhh.

I've also started on planning my next trip - Christmas & New Years in the Maldives/Thailand/Singapore. If I can find the *A availability to get there I'm going. Lots of time scheduled for KVS searching over the next few days...

Oops, I had that stuck in my Ctrl-C from a PM. The correct link is www.myvirtualflights.com

That looks positively OCD as compared to Airline Mogul. Oh hell no. I won't sleep.
