Now as for PHL, if for any reason Mike can't pick you up, I can probably get you there as well, or if you need a ride back. I'll be renting.

Definitely appreciate the offer - I'll be booking a hotel near the airport.

 I had to look why but it's reunion weekend at Princeton so nothing in the area will be cheap. Oh the horrors of out of shape people trying to look hip and cool wearing wrinkled orange and black blazers.

I hate to do this, but can someone catch me up on the event you're planning in So. Jersey? I'm more or less in the area and feel like I should try and meet up with you guys, for a beer in the afternoon if nothing else.

I'll only be online for another few minutes. Maybe someone can PM all the essential details.

Thanks.

Yours in

Rack rate can be a dangerous thing.

Only once have I had to suffer the rack rate. Never fun moving to Minneapolis during the middle of the RNC and needing a hotel for that first night since your flight got in too late to go to the apartment office (Had to mileage run out to MSP - BOS-JFK-SLC-MSP sounds so much better than BOS-MSP).

$160 for a rather dumpy Homewood Suites. Even the Motel 6 by the airport wanted $150.

The severe weather and crappy hotel Internet at the HGI in Beaumont is making it very difficult for me to catch up on 10+ pages of Penalty Box posted over the weekend and earlier today.

Was this the Homewood near MSP, across the street from the Mall of America? I've paid more to stay there when stranded an extra night in Minneapolis due to a blizzard more than once.

It was on 77th St in Richfield - a few miles down the street from MoA - maybe a 5 minute drive from MoA. It's by the Ramada at the corner of Lyndale/77th.

Now after looking it up, it was a Candlewood Suites. Must have confused it with the Homewood Suites since that's what I drive by whenever I go to MoA or the airport, since I drive up Old Shakopee and either take a left at the Candlewood to go to MoA or a right there to go to the airport off-site parking.

Gotcha. The MSP/MoA Homewood isn't too bad. But they do charge close to $200/night often, especially when booking at the last minute.

I could see that - it's a great location for a hotel. Entertainment right across the street, 5 minute drive to the airport, etc.

And most importantly, 12 minutes to Chez mersk862 :D

I almost had to suffer the indignity of rack rate once - then I found a Wyndham BRG opportunity for a free hotel on New Years Eve.
