That happens when you don't have an official language or languages.

I believe that we should have at this point spanish as a secondary language but english should be required as well.

For example if I were to take a job and wish to become a citizen of Switzerland, I expect to have to learn French, German, or Italian, eventhough most people have very passable english.

I would also like to add that contrary to popular belief , I am legally in the country .
I hold both a Mercosur Pasaporte and
a Pasaporte De Estados Unidos .

I'll back off if it gets to that point. There is no TOS-legit way to express the contempt I have for that OP. I think what I wrote in that thread is not over the line, but you can probably see it from there.

Very borderline indeed. I wondeer why CM is so antipathetic toward that poster altho I have seen posts of his that waft a supercilious aroma into the air.

Ah, you must have missed the memo. Official languages are not inclusionary. The PC Police are going to find you and make you watch MSNBC for even thinking of something so insulting.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

So sbm12 is on his way to the Casco Viejo. If no one sees a post out of him from the PTY PC before his flight, it might be time to schedule a memorial service. I hope he got an armored taxi. :D

Which clearly goes to the point that this country lets in almost anybody. ;)

Yeah...I don't speak Spanish very well at all. But we've survived and i even managed to get driving directions from a cabbie, though that was mostly thanks to his using his finger to point the way on the map, not my comprehension of anything he was saying.

Most in PTY thought I was a local - I had made of habit of only visiting Spanish speaking countries. I could have used a translator in France - rather than being an "obnoxious U.S. citizen", I reverted to Spanish whenever there was a disconnect. At least everyone knew I was trying ...

In France, if you are trying, they generally will help you out unless your mispronunciations are gross.

I am far more concerned about our governmental systems continual cost overruns than I am being hunted down(which Ironically would cost them more)

If they want to find me it is easy, but getting money out of me would be humorous at best.

Speaking of this my grandparents told me they were leaving galveston and DHS had a roadblock setup inspecting 'random' cars. I was on the phone and held my tongue but I will simply say no DHS roadblock would have stopped me and searched my entire car. I have rights and they have NO PROBABLE cause.

In addition the entire quick conversation about their authority to do such would be recorded. I understand customs checks and the like at borders, but this is too much. If we don't stand up for our rights we lose them.

It just seems that way.
I was born in San Francisco. Then it was on to St. Louis MO, San Juan PR, Honolulu HI, Gaithersburg MD and back to San Francisco.

And no I'm not a military brat. My dad took a new job that moved the family to St. Louis and then that job transfered him to Puerto Rico. From there my dad decided to retire and felt that it would be nice to do it in Hawaii since we enjoyed living in the Tropics. The move to Maryland was my husband accepting a job in the Corporate Office and then a change of companies brought us to San Francisco.

I don't know enough French to even mispronounce - I followed the single year of French study with two years of Latin and six years of Spanish ...

I think he's driving himself. Let's hope he doesn't think that a chicken would make a good pet in NYC.
