I would do a 24 hour turn to see Pearl and have a couple meals at the places we enjoyed...maybe head up to the N shore and away from Waikiki. Sadly I'm on a PDA for the next 6 hours or so, making booking and rule reviewing much harder. PHL-HNL 9/16 (Tues) on CO HNL-EWR 9/16 (Tues-Weds) on UA EWR-HNL 9/22 (Mon) on UA HNL-PHL 9/24 (Weds-Thurs) on CO $300 for the CO ticket and $290 for the UA ticket, less some TCVs makes this a pretty good deal, though a lot of time in Y on UA and CO. Fortunately my supply of Ambien is pretty good. I can probably adjust the stopover I'm doing in HNL to the earlier week or one day later if others are going to be around, but that week seems to work best for the mix of CO availability, UA availability and sbm12 availability. sbm12, thats really rough (all in Y) I did my first Y leg since February today IAH-EWR and couldnt imagine doing it to HNL. Overall the POS mileage run went well except for the Y leg which I missed the ug b/c of a glitch in CO's system which was confirmed by the E P-Club in Houston. No voucher or drink coupons were offered etiher:(

So, here's my trip report on CHQ in as few words as possible.
5/24 CO5720 IAH-CAE Ex-Comair CRJ N458CA (fleet #471), out of B84G. B84 really has improved a lot with the covered walkway. TerminaLink broke down, so we waited 10 minutes for connecting passengers. Got to CAE right on-time, so no problem. The seats are horrible, and this aircraft has no pre-recorded announcement. The FA has to read all safety things. She did say things about nothing in the seat pocket. No water in bathroom. Instead, there's a basket of wet nap in the sink. Choice of ham or turkey sandwich. Not bad. When we got off at CAE, they have a new crew was waiting to work the return flight to IAH. That FA looked cute, but the First Office was a girl that looks like she just got out of highschool. ;) 5/26 CO5537 CAE-IAH Ex-Indepedence CRJ N648BR (fleet #464). Seats are more comfortable, tray table with more clearance. Again, no water in toilet; wet nap only. This plane has pre-recorded everything, including the announcements about electronic equipment before door closes and at 10,000 feet on the descend. But the FA still has to announce, as I quote: "No thing in the seat pocket, except for stuff already in there when you board. No laptop, no books, no electronic devices, no iPod, no headphones, no nothing!" Snack box with crackers, beef salami, cheese spread, etc. Also not bad. But the FA may used to work at AA, because she started from the back (and this was a odd-number flight), and we were sitting in Row 2! Flight left right on-time, got to IAH 15 minutes early. --- Anyways, the flights are fine. No issues. I did see quite a few ERJs and CRJs at B84 with no markings and just while fuselages and blue tails both days. |
Just an FYI for anyone flying on a CO 767,
both my IAH-EZE on thurs and EZE-IAH on sunday had very bad IFE, just about every movie had static lines going thru the screen ( the kind you see when the tracking was bad on old VCRs) I was on 2 different ships and had similar issues. I don't know if the tapes were worn out , since the month is almost over . The only viewable movies were the Miley Cyrus concert and 27 dresses/The bucket list which have been shown on just about every transcon flight I took this month . |

Maybe not on a same day turn, but the proposition was 24 hours. Pearl in the afternoon after arriving, North Shore the next morning, then whichever IAH flight would suit.

I don't think you can efficiently do Pearl and the North Shore on a same day turn. You would have to take the earliest arriving CO flight (at 1:05 pm from IAH) and go immediately to Pearl for a tour. By the time you finished at Pearl, you would be in peak traffic time heading out to the North Shore (which means at least an hour to get out there), although you might have time to grab takeout and go to the beach for awhile. That would give you enough time to make it back for the latest CO IAH flight.

Worst engine/transmission ever!
Got the 4-cylinder Saturn Vue for my rental in Columbia, SC this past weekend. It has the worst powertrain of any vehicle I've driven in my life - hundreds of them from Ford Festivas to 18-wheelers. Worst, period. Lethargic engine (169HP to push 3,800lb) and the ridiculous transmission logic.
How can a car with three adults that weigh 450lb total and 2 carryon bags have to shift from 4th to 3rd at 75MPH on the freeway over ANY overpass? And then it will hold 3rd for the next half a mile before shifting back to 4th, until the next exit. And on and on. And the torque converter locks up and unlocks even more often. It was absolutely painful to drive this car, and this was in the Low Country in South Carolina and Gerogia? Somebody should shoot him/herself before buying a 4-cylinder Saturn Vue. Another great GM product. |

I had the V6 version of that car last year, and it was quite enjoyable. I think it was AWD as well.
