Of all people, I am shocked that ALCO would not think of the USH route!!

I think I will risk it. Assuming I can get on the JFK AirTrain by 4pm (after clearing customs/immigration - won't have checked bags), a 90 minute trek to EWR would get me there at 5:30. Boarding likely wouldn't begin until 6:40 (about 30 mins before flight). That's assuming there are no delays leaving EWR (Ha!). There's also an 8:59pm EWR-FLL flight I can fall back on if it looks like I will miss the 7:10pm.

Too expensive ($250).

Excellent point...burn 20k of that 60k gravy miles and get a rotorcraft on your FM.

I would say (excludding US Helicopter) public transport is your best bet. Traffic can be a pain and impossible to predict esp from JFK. I think you have enough time. Would want to hear how it goes if you deside on this route

This link will also help

http://www.panynj.gov/Airtrain/

Then click "FROM JFK" and then, in the drop down box, select Newark.

LIRR has trains from Jamaica to NY Penn on weekdays at 3:43p, 3:50p, 4:05p, 4:14p, 4:22p, and so on, and takes about 19 minutes. Much faster than the subway.

I have ridden on a whirlybird before - sightseeing tour of Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau. 20K mi. or $250 is just too steep for me. I plan to try the service at some point, but probably not on this trip.

Assuming his incoming flight is on time, this even leaves time for the PClub depending on gate assignment.

It'll work if it all goes as planned. Just don't get lost in Penn Station (easy to do).

If you're late arriving at EWR you'll run into the everyone's elite security lines at Terminal C, which can take 30 min. to get through at that time of day (start of the trans-atlantic bank, on a Monday night when folks are heading over for the week).

It's possible though.

I say move to the 8:59 flight and stop for pizza in Penn Station...that guy right by the NJT boarding is superb. AirTrain -> LIRR -> PIZZA -> NJTransit -> EWR AirTrain -> PClub :D

Anglo Large Clawed Otter Jun 4, 2008 3:10 pm

Thanks for all the tips. I'm going to give it a go. If I miss my original flight, I doubt I'll have too much trouble going standby on the later EWR-FLL on a Monday night.

I'm surprised by this; I was always under the impression that the E was faster from JFK to NYP than the A. I've actually done it a couple times and found the E to be faster (and more frequent) as well.

I'd splurge the extra $3 and upgrade to the LIRR instead of the A/E option. It saves almost half an hour and is a much more pleasant ride from Jamaica to NYP.
