Still don't know where I'm going in Viet Nam. There are two Starwood properties and one Marriott. All I can say is it better be near one of those! Am I the only lady who ventures in here? Have a good night all.

Sonoranjerseygirl has been known to drop in, and that's about it that I know of.

shell_nyc drops in, too, when she's not working too hard or on a jaunt to Singapore for fun.

I hope you have someone who manages your visa applications for you; the VN visa took us a bit of time to acquire when we went in '06. We enjoyed HCMC/Saigon well enough and some of the beaches were pretty, but overall it is not on the "must return" list. We also didn't make it north of Hoi An except to get to the Hanoi airport to fly out, so we didn't see half the country. Enjoy it.

On one of the trails there I ended up within about six feet of a mother black bear and her two cubs. Very cool experience, although my heart skipped more than a few beats when she emerged from the underbrush with the cubs and stopped in the middle of the trail just a few feet away. Fortunately there were lots of people around, including a park ranger, who just advised us to keep our distance, and slowly move away from her. Apparently all summer she and the cubs had been around the park visitors and didn't feel very threatened by people, as long nobody aggressively approached them. After a minute or two they headed off the trail on their way. I have a couple of pictures I snapped after I got further away from them. You can see them by clicking here and going to page 5 of that gallery. Unfortunately the clearer of the two pics was taken while the cubs were just out of sight in the bushes. When she first walked out on the trail I had just past the bench in the photo.

I wonder if we saw the same bear:

Most of those pics are too blurry to be of any real use, but there they were. I was actually stopped in the middle of the stream taking pictures of a waterfall and turned around to see the bears right behind my wife. Very entertaining, especially when she didn't believe me that there was a bear right there.

Also, in SmugMug you can actually link directly to a picture instead of just to the gallery. Click on the "Share Photo" link and then the "get a link" tab. I generally use the "gallery" or "lightbox" link when I am sharing from SmugMug.

Two X chromosomes here, not so sure if all would agree with the "lady" part though. ;) First outdoor soccer game of the season last night and I came away with soccer ball imprint on my thigh and swollen upper lip. You should've seen the other guy ;)

Sitting in the BOS PC

This new PC here is pretty nice. Sitting here drinking coffee on a conf call... it is roomy and quiet here. Quite a nice place.

I'm heading down to DFW tomorrow afternoon, so I will start using all those recommendations I got from the Box. We are very excited about staying at the W (Thanks ALCO, for the pics of the place!)

I'm getting an "on arrival" VISA - which makes me a bit nervous - I've never done that with a visa. We'll see how that works out!

We are an equal opportunity posting center. However, the distribution here does seem to be a bit unequal (as with FT in general).

True enough, what can we do to attract more women flyers????

Good luck with that. I read about it and considered it, but ultimately just went to the UN Consulate delegation in NYC and did it directly prior to our departure. The "on arrival" thing requires paperwork to be filed before you get there. It isn't like Turkey where you just buy it at the airport.

Thanks to both for cool photos.
Those reminded me our only trip to Alaska, and made me want to visit there again.

We flew to ANC in summer 2006 and drove down to Seward to take 6 hours glacier cruise from there. (FT Alaska board was helpful)
On the way we stop by Exit Glacier, took short trail. I felt a bit chilly when we got off the car and start walking, but the sun was shiny, we were all sweaty after 5 minutes walk.
Exit Glasier turns to a river, where you can got to the bank, and you can see bunch of small pieces of ice floating down the stream. My son went to the side and pick up some and made an ice pile. But water was "ice cold" so after picking up 5-6 pieces he gave up - his hands were almost freezing.

Anyway, I used $99 companion certs from privilege pack for H fare ticket, then used mileage to upgrade return leg. That was a good deal.

I've told myself I'm not doing Alaska until I have the photo gear to make the trip worth it. Same goes for Black Hills/Badlands.

I've never been on a trip where I relish the photos over the memories that they invoke. How many times do you hear - "the pictures just don't do it justice"? Alaska is a place like that! Don't wait! :)

Mike, if you're in the mood to (photo)shoot bears, come up to Rockland Co.

A couple weeks ago someone hit a bear on the Thruway in front of the Palisades Mall (and then rolled their SUV over). Paper didn't get wind of what caused the accident, so they didn't cover it. But it was rather amusing (except for the three injured people).
