In all my trips up here, I've very rarely smelled the stench.

But it's still Lubbock. It's hot, dry, windy, and there's nothing scenic about it.

Ransom Canyon is nice, as is anything on the edge of the Llano Estacado.

I like the panhandle though, so I guess I'm weird.

True, Ransom Canyon isn't bad. And I was surprised at some of the scenery driving up here from ABI on Monday. I had no idea that the escarpments along the edge of the Llano Estacado existed, since I've never made that drive before.

Nice! ^ So were you unhappy with the Canon?

Got a new lens yesterday. Tokina 11-16/2.8, to replace the Canon 10-22/3.5-4.5 that I've already sold.

No, I was very happy with the Canon. I simply got "fast lenstitis". :p

One of the most common use of the ultrawide for me is indoor shots like churches, and in classrooms in rural China, Y seat on CO, etc; all of which can be pretty dark. The f/2.8 gains me 2/3 of a stop at the wide-end - which is not much, but, hey...

And the fact that I got more money from the 10-22 than I have to pay for the Tokina makes the decision pretty easy.

True, but the person who probably holds the record for most bumps last year on IAH-LBB was a grad student at Texas Tech, and had to fly to LBB.

I scored about $1,700 last year in VDB's IAH-LBB. I got a tripple ($900) on the Texas Tech v. Texas A&M football game weekend. My girlfriend wasnt too happy but when you live in Houston and you are not in the O&G business your salary probably sucks so you have to find alternative ways of overcoming that.

The key to this is to look up the football schedule (A&M and Texas) and buy your ticket now for friday-sunday. They are generally oversold starting that thursday night and all Friday. Your return on Sunday will be oversold in the afternoon and possibly Monday morning. Id be willing to put money on it, and I only tell you because I will not be in competition this year as I no longer live in Houston.

My usual LBB flight pattern is IAH-LBB on Monday evening and LBB-IAH on Friday morning. I've never had an oversell on LBB-IAH on a Friday morning. I've seen oversells on IAH-LBB on Monday evenings, especially at times when students are returning after a break. However, usually when my Monday flight was oversold, I was on either the last flight of the day, or the next to last flight and the last flight was oversold as well. Work requires me to be on site at Texas Tech at 8:30 AM on Tuesday morning, and there's no airline that can get you from IAH to LBB that early in the day. And, when the last IAH-LBB flight on Monday has been oversold (the one that leaves around 9:00 PM), it was too late to get on AA or a CO flight to an alternate city and still make it on Monday night. So I've never been able to take advantage of the bumps on this route.

I'll be up there for the Tech v. Texas game and I'm hoping to score a couple of VDBs going and coming back. ;)

Why would one go to that game when it is going to be a rout? ;) Hook 'em Horns!

Ahh...college sports rivalries and fans. Something that is desperately lacking up in NYC. Having grown up with season tickets or access to pretty much every event the University of Florida competed in, being in NYC where no one seems to care is painful. At least I was in AUS for the 2006 NCAA Basketball championships and got to watch UF win with a couple hundred gator fans in a bar there. That was fun. :D

To honor's ALCO's recent Aeroflot flight SVO-HKG, I found some pictures I'd taken and posted, but forgotten about:

Texas Fight!

Texas v T. Tech isn't a football game, it is a punch in the mouth.

not to knock college rivalries at all. But does nyc really need one? I mean we have the greatest team ever in the history of sports...the Yanks! (flame suit on)

The Yankee-Boston series and the Subway series and lets not forget the Giants--go blue! Come on sbm12 were the big leagues up here :p

btw just for the record I am a big Notre Dame fan...so yes given them and Yanks it has been a rough couple of years. Thank goodness for the Giants
