Wahoo. I finally got to fly on the upper deck of a 744. Too bad it was a United flight, but still a pleasant experience.

How do you know that yet? A few weeks out the plane hasn't been assigned.

According to the CO FAQ, if there is a partial row 6, than it has AVOD -- or something like that. I doubt the knowledge of the FAQ-dude, but according to that, I'm stuck. Was on a NW A330 last night and really enjoyed the AVOD and the HUGE screens on that one. Watched Bullitt and Juno. But, alas, they did have The Bucket List. :(

I had heard good things about The Bucket List. Oh well. Here's what I learned about movies last night: No Country for Old Men sucks. The best thing in it was Javier Bardem's silenced shotgun, because stuff like that is cool to me. I didn't get the flick, and I'm not willing to sit thru it again to see if I missed something. Also had a slower-to-develop plot than, um, Watergate.

Juno, on the other hand, was hilarious.

You only see the appearance of those seats on the seatmap or pda.co.com about 2-3 days before departure. Actually, for CO98 HKG-EWR, you can find out 4-5 days before departure for checking the plane being used on CO99 EWR-HKG two days prior.

For example, if you're flying 6/18 CO98, you can check on 6/14 to see what aircraft is being used on the 6/16 CO99. [The only time the plane will be different is when they swap a 772 at HKG for heavy maintenance; and in that case, your HKG-EWR flight will have brand-new AVOD.]

THWACK! The Widebody Master has spoken. :)

I am one of the "FAQ-dudes" which is why I was pointing to it. ;)

And it mentions the 48-hours bit in that post (emphasis added):
To determine whether you will be travelling on a 772 with AVOD you will need to check the final seatmap about 48 hours prior to departure. If the seatmap shows 6DE in BF and 31DEF in economy and lack 28DEF in economy you will be flying on an AVOD equipped 772. The 772 uses a newer Panasonic e2X system (vs. the Panasonic eFX on 752s).

As an alternative, you can also go to http://pda.continental.com/info the day before your flight and select the "View Inflight Amenities" option, which will tell you the inflight entertainment and in-seat power offering for that specific aircraft.

Fly westbound on any domestic CO flight this month and you'll see it for free. :D I didn't see it in flight but watched it at my hotel one night last weekend - I did not like it much.

Greetings from Sunday. The stupid bar down the road decided to close at 3am. Some 24-Hour city HKG turned out to be. :D

ALCO from the future! :D

Thanks to sbm12 and the FAQ, I figured out the whole "which 777s have AVOD" thing. Sorry - I'm way behind the rest of you experts!

Today I was on ship 019, so I had the new AVOD and power - which was great. (Was on 011 going over, and that did not). Of course, I watched Harry Potter... again. 200+ movies and stuff, and I watched something I've seen a million times. :)

The guy in the seat next to me in BF brought his electric razor on the plane with him, as in carried it in his hand (no case), then put it between the seats where they sit the drinks. He finally moved it to the seat pocket, and shaved during the flight. In his seat. Arggg... doesn't anyone have any ettiquete any more?

In the club now for my 6:45 connection. Dunno why there are no 5-6 pm flights to CLE today. Oh well... I'll try the wine!

Just like NYC...the "city that never sleeps" does quite often, it turns out. There are a few places in HKG that I found which are open 24 hours, including the Flying Pan diner, but plenty of the places close down, too.

Someone should have given you a call today - I made sure I would pass that along.

I don't go to bars in Wan Chai, and other places in HK do close down. It's definitely not a 24 hour city like many people say it is. MTR shuts down before 1am and that's the time when most regular folks go home. ;)

It's not like here in Houston where I can do grocery shopping at Wal-Mart Supercenter at 3am and then go have breakfast or pie at various diners safely.
