I finally decided to jump into the BD game. Since it's a slow morning at work, I did an analysis of just how many BD miles I could get for the remaining portion of this year, just by using them as my Hilton HHonors Double Dip partner. It worked out to a very significant amount, so I decided to open a Diamond Club account. I still have mixed opinions about throwing my UA flight miles into a BD account, since my UA Premier status gets me E+ and the possibility of an upgrade (BTW, tomorrow's UA upgrade cleared when I checked in this morning :D), but just from other sources I could accumulate a very significant BD balance in a short period of time, without actually flying.
So as of June 1, all my Hilton stays are crediting my new BD account with 1,000 miles per night. Until June 1 I'll stick with WN, just because I need those last few credits toward a free ticket with them. I figure with the amount i've been flying this year, i can get my 1K and then throw any extra UA flying to BD and get BD Gold. It will be a truly sad state of affairs if I manage to earn top-tier status on three airlines this year. |
nothing like getting on an emb 145 for yyz iah

send an e-mail to [email protected] mine took about 2-3 weeks. I get the feeling that desk is understaffed.

I've been on the YYZ-IAH EMB-145 flight when it was about 2:30 en route and it wasn't bad. My only real complaint about that aircraft is the seat cushions.

I haven't flown YYZ-IAH on the ERJ but I have flown MSP-IAH quite a few times on it, and once on a CRJ . While that's a shorter route by several hundred miles, it's still just over 1,000 miles. There was one trip last year where the winds caused the flight to be about 3.25 hours in the air. Fortunately I was in 12A, had a newish ERJ-145XR with good cushions, the flight had only about 20 passengers, and I had a good stock of drink coupons.

I will give credit to US with regards to their EMB 175s. They are clean (for now), nice, and comfy. Decent leg room too. It's just too bad they run them on PHL-IAH vs. CO with the 737s. If they at least ran EMB 190s with F, I would possibly take them more to IAH. I'd rather have a chance at F on CO than fly on the EMB 175 w/ US and no F at all.

Random Thoughts
I had a very rude awakening last week. I actually flew FL for a leg.
At check in the agent insisted that my bag have an AirTran name tag on it, despite my nice leather tag with all personal info already being there. When I protested she told me to just do it and stop arguing. She then made me pull a single magazine from the bag as it was at 50.5 lbs. She insisted she would have to pay the fee if it was caught downstream overweight. Finally, in all my travels throughout Asia and Europe, the two main domiciles of the Fastidious Anal Dragons, I have NEVER had a check in agent care about the dimensions of the bag. This FL lady proceeded to pull out her dressmaker's tape measure and, while measuring my bag, telling me how my bag appeared to be oversized. After the scrutiny she declared my bag at exactly 60 inches. I can imagine the argument about a 1/4 inch if she insisted the bag was too big. On the plus side I scored a standby seat on a flight for which they were soliciting volunteers. Also, the XM onboard is a wonderful thing. Other thoughts: Just booked PHL-SMF on CO for mid June. Total was $680 with an R outbound and a B return. Compare that to my recent PHL-ORD on NW. That was close to $900 and then a change to the return added over $300. Yikes. I had a guy on NW rag me because I went from my window seat to the aisle after he had gotten up at the gate. He was standing aftward and thus there was plenty of room. He got furious at me for "jumping ahead of him" and then started yelling at me when I reached back to open the overhead despite it being at least a foot from him as I gently opened it. It turned out into an insult match as befuddled pax looked on. He kept calling me 'professor' (I had a physics book out on flight), as if that was an insult I guess? Why does MDW have those corrals around the bag belts and only open at one end? And they change the open end from time to time. What are their purpose? And who doesn't like Uno's (home location)? |

Do you at least have an exit row seat?

[SNIP] And who doesn't like Uno's (home location)? And I'm with sbm12, I prefer Due's, though either is awfully good. |

Last time we were in Chicago we had Due for lunch on a very cold Sunday afternoon in February. There was no line, no wait, and the pizza tasted even better since the windchill was in the -25F range. |
