Finally.
Is downtown Houston up and running again, or are they still cleaning up and restoring utilities? Funny story. My mom cleaned out the fridge before they left and packed all of their fruit in her carry-on. TSA asked to search her bags because they couldn't figure out what all of the round things were in her bag. They turned out to be the apples she brought with her. Our downtown office is closed all this week. The boss sent a picture of our office with blown out windows, mainly on the higher floors. BFF reports that CO HQ lost one window, but she didn't tell me if it re-opened. |
I envy anyone outside of the financial industry right now. Ive put in almost 40 hours this week and its only Wednesday. The worst part is that dispite the long hours, bonuses will not be as big this year due to current conditions. I guess the bright side is that I still have a job.:o

The company MR BL works for isn't in the financial industry but took a huge hit because of Ike. Approx 25% of their properties are in Galveston/Kemah and things are not looking so good. Affected 3000 employees. I think Galveston's biggest hope is legalized gambling.

At last I have ELECTRICITY!! How exciting!
|
Thinking about my parents, I feel that to them electricity is not even the most important thing. More importantly, IAH is open and CO has plenty of seats and good fares for people flying out. :)
No power, no big deal. Fly out here to visit me! And it'd be a huge problem if IAH were to remain close as they have a tour to catch in Greece late next week. :D |

I was thinking to fly out too since I dont have work till monday. But along with the no power there was no phone and cell phone was pretty nonexistent without driving somewhere to get bars! blah. The no electricity thing was not too big a deal (just super boring since I was alone), I have dealt with worse in Lima during the 80's shining path bombings (no water or elect) for weeks at a time. And I wanted to conserve the petrol.

I grew up in North Florida and we had a couple storms sweep through and knock out power for a day or three, but nothing this long.

Sweet mother. I browsed that place for five minutes and had to stop due to the almost uncontrollable urge to beat people about their head and shoulders with a hammer. If I wanted that I could go to FYAD.

Any good fares between now and Sunday evening? I did not receive the CO specials e-mail but we still have an itch to leave town.

Yeah...the whole "there is someone wrong on the internet" desire to convince others on a topic that there is no conceivable hope of actually doing so is entertaining, but only to read, not to actually participate in, IMO. TS/S is the closest I get to that sort of thing. It could be OMNI in most cases with the harsh dichotomy between the various folks in there.
In other news, my Mom called and said they finally got power a little after 7PM central time down in Angleton. It was of particular interest to me because I was sitting in a meeting with a bunch of director and VP type folks when she called, and five minutes later power was cut to my entire office building. It took a moment for everyone to adjust when the room (which did not have windows) suddenly went pitch black, save for the faces around the room illuminated by laptop computer screens. In one of my more eloquent moments, I managed to utter, "Well, alright." |
