There were rumblings that many properties were no longer upgrading regular Privilege members after the policy change went into effect several months back. It's nice to have that back as a published benefit (albeit for Golds and Plats only). In the long-run, I may be able to make Gold work, if I credit my overseas stays to A|Club (as they have more properties to choose from in Europe than in N. America). I had already planned to stay at one of their SDQ properties over New Year's, and will likely seek out Sofitel/Accor properties in BRU and AMS for planned stays next year, depending upon how Plat treatment works out in practice. The non-expiring points are also a big plus, IMO.

To which policy changes are you referring?
I never tested whether the new policy was adhered to, as my stays post-November 2007 involved paid suite bookings (at ZQN and MIA Sofitels). |
I just looked out the window of my building and noticed that the Hilton Americas Downtown no longer has an "l." Perhaps some FTer has scooped it up and crammed it into their garage (alongside a blue carpet, no doubt). :D

In typical Elite Fashion, I read SFOGATE's post to mean the carpets in the boarding area at SFO were dirty and the cleaning crew wasnt there and was showing up at the boarding of the noon bank. Man I think I read into some things a litte too much.
In other news.... My flight from OKC to IAH looks to be on-time and possible upgrade! |

Awesome! Sofitel/Accor rolled out their new loyalty program today, and invited me to Platinum (top-tier). The Bennies:
+100% bonus points Get an exclusive welcome in Sofitel hotels, with a greeting drink and special gift. - Guaranteed room availability with 3 days notice - Room upgrade at check-in (depending on availability) - Late check-out until 4:00 pm Dedicated Customer Service Exclusive promotions Also, points no longer expire! The program may not be as enticing as SPG, but it's certainly a notch above what Privilege was, and Sofitel tends to have very nice properties. |

Sounds good. And I assume you can also use it at a $39/night Motel 6 on the side of an interstate too and get an upgrade to a room that has a remote control for the TV and towels in the bathroom? :D

That's not one of the Accor brands I intend to frequent (though I may use such rates to my advantage for night-accrual purposes ;)). I like Sofitels, would like to try Pullman, and have heard that some Novotels are quite nice.

More on my personal carpet rant:
They're here. My off-white carpets have become the peeing pad for the new puppy, plus add in two teenagers eating in front of the TV and you have very dirty carpets. End result: $45 total cost for waiting 3 1/2 hours and several "where is he" phone calls. I got a $75 "we're sorry" discount. :D |

Yeah the Sofitels and some Novotels are great. Too bad in the US Accor is one extreme or the other, with nothing really in between.
