They do that in Phoenix too.

or 78 West

ETA: What about Atlanta , Do you just take The Peachtree ?

The Peachtree? How could there be "The" when half the streets have "Peachtree" in them?

I'm generally OK with that. Fortunately nearly all of the signs I've encountered while driving in California have both the route number, and the local name, on them.

That would be a far more confusing thing in a city like Houston, where a local might say "The Southwest Freeway" but the signs on that freeway only indicate US 59.

+1 for the recommendation on Santa Monica. I also enjoyed the coastal cities in Orange County. Or, get a little crazy and drive the couple hours to PSP or SAN.

I'm sure you enjoyed Santa Monica....but, to us Los Angelenos, we avoid Santa Monica like plague. It's like people who live in San Francisco avoid Fisherman's wharf at all cost...

Now, beaches like Manhattan Beach is much nicer, but there are no starwood hotels.

Honestly, I probably would recommend staying at Westin Pasadena. It's a decent hotel and Pasadena is lovely. I used to live there, so I may be biased :p but, it really is a pretty neat area. There are lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance. Pasadena is still pretty close to most areas in the LA vicinity. There's also metro that will take you to hollywood (not that I'd do it...but, if you don't want to drive).

If you want a nice relaxing resort, I'd recommend St Regis Monarch Beach. However, that property is in Dana Point, which is pretty further down in South OC. There are things to do around there, but you probably wouldn't want to take that drive on 405 to go to the west side or vice versa.

We have a friend that lives off Peachtree in Chamblee. Running parallel to Peachtree in that area is Old Peachtree, a couple of blocks east, and Peachtree Industrial, a couple of blocks west. All merge together just to the north and south of where he lives. Heaven forbid Georgians come up with unique street names, instead of just using "Peachtree" over and over again. A similar situation exists with Peachtree and West Peachtree in Downtown Atlanta. It's maddening.

How could I forget Katy Freeway. :o

Where is the St. Regis exactly ?
I know where the Ritz is , I went surfing there many times down in Salt Creek right next to the Ritz.

Indeed. Numbers by themselves are sufficient here, because we don't have time to say anything longer since we're busy sitting in traffic on those roads. It is tremendously helpful that our exits are numbered as well. We don't have to waste time with street names.

00:45 until the first bus of the day runs back home, so I can take some NyQuil and crash. I came back to the office a day too early...

Work. Fail.
