At least you're consistent. You like the champions of the off-season in both sports. Nobody keeps the wires humming in February and March like these two with not much to show for it when the real season starts.

Indeed. Overspending and underdelivering. I'm a conflicted Mets fan: I grew up watching the Mets, but since I've discovered hockey I find baseball to be unacceptably slow and boring. My  season of TV is from the end of the Cup finals to the start of hockey preseason, and like some people look forward to interleague play is how I look forward to NHL schedule release day, which is typically mid-July.

These are long-term affiliations - I was booing Cal Ripken in 1983 while in elementary school.

:D - me too. If a Philly-based tiddlywinks team gets beat, I smile.

I was born an Indians fan. (how's that for hopeless?) So the Phillies aren't even in the same league... Don't follow pro football, basketball or hockey. But, any time the scores are rolling past on the tube I think to myself, "Oh nice. Philly got spanked again..." No other city does this to me. Hell, even the mention of a Philly cheese steak makes me gag.

Back in SEA now after a long but enjoyable afternoon touring around the Boeing factory up in Everett. That place is really amazing. I seem to forget just how enormous airplanes are until seeing them from a different perspective, like under construction. We saw the assembly lines for the 747, 777 and 787. The 787s look pretty nice. They also have an observation deck overlooking the runway with ATC broadcasting. Very cool. Photos (from the stuff we were allowed to take photos of - not in the tour) to follow eventually.

Randomly ran in to SEAUAKID while waiting for my dinner in the food court. That was fun. He liberated a bunch of food from the AS lounge for me. :D

Oh, and I'll be inside security in various airport for the next 76 hours or so. That's ridiculous.

See, I could handle Geno's and Pat's when I would go to watch the Mets beat the Phils (or later, the Phils / O's in interleague play).

We are doing Boeing on 3/6 - can't wait.

I like hockey and the fast paced feel of it, but I really enjoy baseball's pace too. I can't stand baseball on TV, but it is great in person.

I have yet to try Geno's. Always been a Pat's or a Tony Luke's guy. I should consider giving financial support to Geno's, as I do tend to support Joey Vento emotionally...the prohibition on languages other than English was brilliant. Joey was on the Today Show during the language kerfuffle, and he beat the pants off of Soledad O'Brien's attempt to make him look like a racist/bigot/xenophobe.

It wasn't too bad. As a chef I am normally the first to say if your going to have dessert do it the right way. This however was just useful as I dont keep regular sugar in the house.

I've been to slightly more hockey games than I have baseball games, and once I understood hockey, I never looked back. With the exception of the trapezoid, I like the post-lockout changes to the game. I wish they would do a little more to improve the on-ice product, but unless there is regime change at the NHL, I don't see that happening.

Among my suggestions to fix the NHL:
  • No trapezoid - if the goalies are wearing all that crap, they can be targets within reason...if you get rid of the trapezoid, one of three things will happen: A) goalie comes out and makes a play that starts his team down the ice, B) goalie comes out and takes a hit, leads to scoring chance, C) goalie attempts to play puck and fails, resulting in scoring chance. Besides, this is a goofy rule that punishes two goaltenders in order to mollify the other 28 teams. Brodeur in NJ and Turco in DFW are the two guys that this rule was meant to stifle the talents of.
  • Shooter's helmets come off in the shootout - marketing 101...gotta see the star's face
  • Get rid of a ref and go back to one ref/two linesmen...empower the linesmen like the NFL empowers all officials to throw a flag. League video review will determine if linesmen are getting calls right.
  • No-touch icing - why race to the boards and potentially take that hit? Kids get paralyzed doing this.
  • Players who dive to embellish a penalty get a double minor, and a diving call cancels the original infraction...are you listening, Sidney Crosby??????
  • Get the damn offices out of the Air Canada Centre - if it smells like $hit and looks like $hit, it's probably $hit. The attachment to the Leafs makes the whole thing suspect.

Good evening box
I just got back from JFK

The UA P.S. Business seat is very comfortable to sleep in .
The service was once again great on both flights today , although the 6 am flight attendant kept re making the Westin Inspired signature cocktail every time I got up to go to the bathroom , so she gets a huge ^ .

Between the praise for UA PS and my NHL diatribe, monitor will be in here tearing stuff up before we know it.

I forgot to add that on the flight back dessert was an Ice Cream sundae , immediately followed by fresh made Chocolate Chip Cookies , and milk .
I passed on the milk and had a cup of tea instead.

Nice to see another 'skins fan in the Box. The official team of . Although I'm not sure how anyone could boo Ripken.
