I got SO HOPELESSLY LOST driving around PHL, I almost break out in hives thinking about driving there!!!
Anyhow, it seemed every time I drove back to the airport I would get screwed up... And since my trips there would be years apart, I wouldn't remember from the last time. There I would be, driving along on the Schuylkill Expressway, planting myself in the left lane because that's where the sign pointed for Philadelphia International Airport... Yeah, just follow that guy driving twenty miles an hour slower than everyone else because you don't want to miss that exit.... and the next sign you saw as you passed was "Last exit before toll" and I would wind up on that damned Walt Whitman bridge again! Crossed that bridge on three separate trips. I know it's not logical but to this day I still get a good feeling any time a Philly team gets beat... In any sport. And, needless to say, I'm not a fan of Walt Whitman either. |
GPS is the answer, and not that iphone crappy kind.

This isn't the first time we've encountered that behavior here. Apparently in Atlanta, drivers treat a flashing yellow signal the same way as a flashing red signal. Atlanta and Baton Rouge are the only two cities where I've ever encountered that driving habit. It's maddening.
What's even more entertaining is what happens when the power is out. (traffic signals are treated as four way stops) Most folks process the information as, "Hmmm, there's a traffic signal. It's not red, so I must be good to go right on through..." Whenever the power goes out around here, I set up a lawn chair in the front yard and watch the action. |

More likely just an inattentive driver. He sees that flash of yellow and processes the information, "Oh that just flashed yellow so usually it turns red after that, I believe I'll stop."

Lights out after a hurricane, means 4 way stop legally, but in reality it means every man for himself free for all through the intersection, biggest car wins! Literally some of the worst violators of this rule were continually city buses and school bus drivers |
Driving in Philly isn't that bad. Except for:
1. Exits on the freeway come up very quickly, on both left and right. 2. Little or no merge area on the on-ramps to freeways. 3. Just try to explain to people how to get from NYC to Philly: Turnpike -> 73 -> 38 -> 30 -> B. Frankin Bridge. It's unbelievable that now in 2009, the PATP/I-95 interchange construction is just starting (or not started yet). |

AviStar is very expensive. I never park at the airport for personal trips, always get a ride, but for business the S/O company pays and uses AviStar.

I treat the company's money as if it were my own. If it's too expensive for me to pay for it myself I won't spend their money on it either.

for me the companies money is essentially my own, so I "slept" in the car two nights last week when no rooms could be had for less than $189/night :)

I agree 100%. I am the same way, but for business trips the company insists on using AviStar

Although I would love the independence (and hopefully will have the opportunity) of working for myself, there are certain times -- like when reading your post -- that I'm thankful I work for a multi-billion dollar global corporation. While I'm always very respectful of their money, and my budgets, I also never sacrifice my sanity or basic comforts when traveling. Well.... sanity.... I don't sacrifice it intentionally. |

I asked where in my travel budget I'd see these rebates credited.
Next time I get a  from a company mandated vendor I'll use it. I'll never forget renting a car from Avis in IND and the agent literally laughed at how high my rate was. |

I've never taken the "what would I spend" quite that far. Then again, my car isn't very comfortable when driving, no less sleeping ...
I was just thankful that Avis gave me a full size 4 door impala instead of the economy compact I rented ;) |
