I forgot something to add to this: because of our lovely population density, I can probably direct a person to nearly anywhere in this armpit of a state merely by using the following:
Note the lack of anything that could be considered useful information, such as distances or street names as opposed to numbers. |

NJ is adding roundabouts these days. The traditional NJ circle has no rules and the traffic volume is too high on the roads for them to work properly. I've spent the past hour reading up on them.

I thought that's what you were saying. And I would like to think I was slightly less moronic than the average 15 year old high school baseball player in a Camaro probably would be ...
I reserve the right to amend my outlook assuming that I stop living in NJ. I think living here and working in AC has soured my attitude toward humanity somewhat. |

I've been to places so rural that the directions are something like, "Take the third paved road on your right... Go a ways then turn left where Ed's barn used to be..."
Oh, BTW: there HAD to have been a sign saying "Ed's barn wuz here", right? |

Every circle out this way is dead except for Routes 70/72 and the one in front of ACY. There used to be one on the Black Horse Pike about 15 minutes before you got into AC, and that is gone too.

Where the hell in Ocean County can Route 9 support the construction of a circle? Nearly every business is right up against the curb from Little Egg up into Toms River...and let's not get into how many cemetaries are bordered by 9.

Perhaps they are taking a lesson from the lovely city of Chicago and will move the cemeteries.... Wouldn't surprise me one bit, after all NJ's corruption is only second to Chicago.

At one time when I was looking to move to PHX the city's website had a page dedicated to the teaching of negotiating a traffic circle. PHX was just getting around to installing them, when I know NJ and I think several other states are actively seeking ways to delete them.

I, for one, like circles. Until a certain point they move traffic much more efficiently than traffic lights. The problem is that drivers in the US are rather uneducated when it comes to the rules of the road and the traffic here is quite a bit denser than in places like the UK.

Have we all not experienced the wonderful Michigan lefts? That is right, go past the street, cut through the turnabout in the median, continue back in the direction you just came from, and then take a right.
Um, how about a left turn signal folks? While you are at it, try repairing the freeways BEFORE you can see China through the potholes? |

I love the wider circles. Treat 'em like my own personal skid pad. Time it just right to enter just behind someone, use your momentum to pass 'em up and zip out the other side ahead. :D Extra points if they flip you off.^
He was chuckling at my buddy handing on to the upper handle for dear life. He let me go with a warning not to do it again and if I did, make sure it was dry. ^^ |
