They are panda-ring to the masses.

Can't wait for tonight's episode. Odds on Jodi's survival? I make it 1-4.

In the context of the show, she is a dead cert to make it thru

I hope that the "Reality TV" aspect takes a slightly smaller place in the next 2 episodes!

Not being a gambler I am never quite sure about what the order of odds represents. Is this:

(a) if I give you a Pound you will give me four back if Jodi survives; or
(b) if I give you four Pounds you will give me one back if Jodi survives?

I would place a bet with you if you mean (a) but not if you mean (b).

It was originally (a), but the nuances of stupid reality TV, with its 'surprises', suggest that she may actually survive and become a BA-hero.

On each of the six flights I've taken since the first episode I've been eagerly looking for Jodi (I've even been hanging out by the crew exit door opposite A22/23 to see if I can catch those fake eyelashes.

Not even close

a) 4-1 means you get 4 winnings against 1 laid (which you also get back) - so you get 5

b) 1-4 means you get 1 winnings against 4 laid, so you also get 5 back

I now think that it'll be something like 1-10 that she stays (if you had to pay tax on this bet you'd win next to nothing, so not really worth a punt).

5 minutes to show time

Tax on bets have been gone for sometime. I know we are all used to taxes with BA but that's too far.

1/10 is close to a closed book!!

Isn't chengdu doing terribly in loads? Despite all the money being thrown at the route and the big "visit chengdu" Heathrow express trains and pop up area in T5 and people giving me bloody fortune cookies.

Shame they didn't recruit any of my friends who speak mandarin. They obviously were only looking for "native" looking mandarin speakers.

Yes, I did know - the tax in this example was supposed to be 'hypothetical' ie as you say not really worth having a go (but I did once stick 100 on a horse called Indian Skimmer to win 10 but that was on course which has never been taxable).

Gosh, those were the days - deciding to pay tax on the bet, or on the winnings. Unfortunately, 'her indoors' doesn't approve so I've had to wean myself off the bookies. Giving up smoking was a breeze in comparison
