CAUTION: In February 2019, American Airlines changed the coding of gift card transactions. Although there are a few successful data points since, in general, Gift Card purchases are now explicitly identified, and no longer reimbursed by American Express.
Reminder: you must enroll and select your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase. http://www.americanexpress.com/airlinechoice -or- "Call the number on the back of your Card to select a qualifying airline."
Data Points on automatically reimbursed incidentals since 2017:
Admirals Club Memberships: Admirals Club Passes:
Wifi is provided by one of three third-party providers and is thus not eligible for the incidental credit.
* For items not automatically reimbursed but which are not excluded by Amex, you can try and request manual reimbursement from American Express; however, you may need to wait 14-28 days first.

Hi I have two $50 charges for my gift cards that were posted on 12/6 on my amex platinum. I have not received my credit as of today 12/12. I understand I am suppose to wait 14 days. Should I be worried?
Thanks.

Has there been any discussion as to whether or not the airline selection takes effect immediately?
I selected AA on Dec 5 and purchased a gift card a few minutes later. Still no credit on the 12th (personal gold).
It didn't take that long for the credit to post for my plat.

I'm wondering this myself. I selected AA on 12/8, purchased $100 GC on 12/9. Has not credited yet -- but I was kind of expecting by tomorrow.
I remember it working right away -- but not sure.
Hmmm I don't see the credit yet, but in my benefit section is showing i only have $100 remaining of the $200 credit, my guess is I'm going to see the $100 credit soon?

is it recommended to make two separate purchases of $100 gift cards or can I purchase 2 at the same time totaling $200 at checkout?

Took 4 days to post, $100 gift card. Just bought a second one, to use up full Schwab credit.
Btw, I noticed the "benefits" section of Amex site reflected the purchase before the credit hit... so awardwallet also noticed the decrease in available flight credits before Mint saw the $100 post. I found that (slightly) interesting
