GS Qualifying for 2019 Discussion

This will be a discussion thread, for discussing the needed qualifications and timing of notification.
For posing formal notifications (but no discussion), use this thread Global Services 2019 Notifications (ONLY)
2019 GS Timeline
First requal notifications came out on 6 Dec 2018
First-time notifications started about 3 Jan 2019
Numerous reports that all regular notifications will be out by 11 Jan 2019
Initial successful reconsideration appeals reported 15 Jan 2019
First reports of challanges15 Jan 2019
For discussion of GS benefits, please use Consolidated Global Services Thread: Benefits, Questions 2018
For 2017 qualifications, see the 2017 thread and for 2018, see the 2018 thread

To find your PQDs if >than $12K
Go to
MileagePlus activity since my last statement and it is in the "Account summary" table at the top of the page.

Note this is not just the UA operated PQDs (which is commonly believed to be what matters for GS) but rather your total PQDs.

Definitions

BIS is actual scheduled flight distance (Great Circle Mileage Distance -- GCM) between airports with 500 mile minimum for elites. This is the standard used for Lifetime miles also. Those flying mostly sub-500 segments sometimes prefer to not use the minimum rule.

The definition for CPM is a bit vaguer, especially since CPM is used in multiple different situations.

Believe for the purpose of this thread, GS qualification, folks are using

PQD CPM = UA PQDs / UA BIS

Note there is no direct evidence UA uses this CPM number for GS Qualification but it is a number FTers like to use.

As for BIS, UA does not report this number your account and it needs to be manually tracked.

One way is to make use that PQMs are based on BIS but there may be a multiplier / bonus for high end fares. If always in 2x PQMs, you could divide by 2 to get BIS.

rwsteelers had a good method for determining UA BIS -- the change in Lifetime Miles from the first of the year.

Similar spreadsheets were created in years past, so I'm hoping to continue this tradition. Please take the time to enter your stats into the spreadsheet. Many thanks

Current GS with 250k PQM and 51k PQD out of Newark. My status says to wait until Jan. I figured with over 50k I should requalify easily but I guess not

P.S. almost 99% United metal. All flights booked on United.com

Agreed - especially out of a hub. I’d think you’d have to be north of 50k to have a chance for an initial qualification.

I have two home airports: IAH and MUC. Given your comment, should I set my home to MUC? Will be at $56k PQD, all UA metal by end of December.

It probably won't matter for this year, but I certainly would for next year. You don't miss out on much be not being based in the US.

You'll also get invited to the annual GS+1K gathering in MUC, assuming there is one.

Curious whether or not I'll re-qualify - think I'm on the bubble with <50% chance. Currently 1K after a year of quite low travel in 2017 (2017 GS, 2018 1K, 2019?). IAH based:

PQM: 135,694
PQS: 71
PQD: 45,356

Thoughts?

Maybe a coin toss....

I'm at $52K PQD after this week's travel MCO / DEN based ... I put myself maybe slightly better than a coin toss, frankly.... the DEN base won't play in my favor even though my address is now MCO based as of Oct.

Will be interesting to see... please do report in either way in January.

curious if those hearing in January work for large companies with big corp travel arrangements with UA. I've always heard late, but have made it every year since the merger (former CO presidential plat or whatever the term was)

I just went on the mystatus page, and it says "Congratulations, we're pleased to invite you to United Global Services for 2019."

Does this mean I have qualified for next year? Or is a residual from my current Global Services status, which expires at the end of January 2019? When I look at my Global Services card on the United app, it still says "Valid through 1/2019". Thanks in advance

Notification period - 1st Timer

I was kind of expecting to cross the GS threshold this year for the first time (IAH based)

2013 - 2016 1K with spends in the mid teens
2017 1K Status with: PQM 158,335; PMS 67.5; PQD $28,787
2018 YTD: PQM 279,831; PQS 123; PDQ $64,616

Seems like my stats are in line with GS invite criteria but I've not yet been notified nor do I see a pending or under review notice on my Premier Progress page.

Any thought on if might still get notified for 2019 GS?

Thanks!

Welcome to FlyerTalk, thomisont! First time GS notifications won't arrive until first of the year. Those are good numbers though, I think that you have a good chance, even with IAH as your hub.

Good luck!

Yep I agree. 99% chance you make GS with that. Close to my spend last year and previous years when I initially qualified (I’m out of SAT so might as well be IAH).
