To find your PQDs if >than $12K
Go to
MileagePlus activity since my last statement and it is in the "Account summary" table at the top of the page.

Note this is not just the UA operated PQDs (which is commonly believed to be what matters for GS) but rather your total PQDs.

Definitions

BIS is actual scheduled flight distance (Great Circle Mileage Distance -- GCM) between airports with 500 mile minimum for elites. This is the standard used for Lifetime miles also. Those flying mostly sub-500 segments sometimes prefer to not use the minimum rule.

The definition for CPM is a bit vaguer, especially since CPM is used in multiple different situations.

Believe for the purpose of this thread, GS qualification, folks are using

PQD CPM = UA PQDs / UA BIS

Note there is no direct evidence UA uses this CPM number for GS Qualification but it is a number FTers like to use.

As for BIS, UA does not report this number your account and it needs to be manually tracked.

One way is to make use that PQMs are based on BIS but there may be a multiplier / bonus for high end fares. If always in 2x PQMs, you could divide by 2 to get BIS.

rwsteelers had a good method for determining UA BIS -- the change in Lifetime Miles from the first of the year.

Similar spreadsheets were created in years past, so I'm hoping to continue this tradition. Please take the time to enter your stats into the spreadsheet. Many thanks

Hoping to get GS this year. Had it 5 years ago.
SFO based.
BIS 150k (300k PQM). All business class miles. 95% international.
$75k spend on United metal. $135k in last 3 yrs.
would have had another $4k Miles had United not cancelled my flight out of Singapore yesterday (switched to Sing Air).
What are my chances?

Just checked the new site and saw "Congratulations, we’re pleased to invite you to United Global Services for 2019."
PQM: ~340k (assuming 170k BIS..)
PQD: ~$63k
Out of SFO
This is a requalification, overall my 9th year being GS (but with some gaps throughout the years)

request ORC for the cancelled flight. They will credit you the PQD, RDM, and lifetime miles. Worth it.

thanks. How do I do that? I ended up canceling the United flight and booking the Singapore (and crediting it to UA)

When do new qual messages normally go out?

I've not been GS before but am at approx 90k PQD, (90% UA metal) this year so I'm thinking I have a good shot. Last year wasn't anything amazing (Gold status), so that doesn't help.

When do they generally notify new members for first time qualifications ?

thanks.

If you independently canceled without involving UA, then ORC probably will not be an option

Even if ORC were possible, at $75k PQD it wouldn’t be necessary. Furthermore ORC is not helpful to GS qualification. A person in the GS group (corporate, not an agent) told me their data pull isn’t sophisticated enough to see ORC credits as United metal. But, in an appeal, you could mention it and it could be considered.

The only reason I would really want to grab those miles back is for the MM status (lifetime miles). Like you said, at that level of spend, the PQD / RDM are not consequential whatsoever.

that should work no problem. They can credit ORC as UA ORC or partner ORC.

I'm curious if there's any true consensus (reading the thread one gets an impression...) about the "trailing spend" component of the calculation, e.g. how many years back they go and if there's a magic total.

Looking at YTD+2017+2016 I'm currently sitting at $98.9k combined PQD with YTD PQCPbisM of $0.43 average across all miles (Or a segment average of $0.75 PQCPbisM).

I have one more guaranteed trip this year that would put me within $62 PQD of a$100k 3-year spend and wondering if moving up a 2019 trip in to this CY would do anything or if I should once again not hold my breath

was on a flight CDG-EWR on Friday, the FA said there were 17 GS in a Polaris Cabin of 39. With the recent upswing in economy and people spending more....I wonder how much UA decides to cap GS. or not? How can it remain exclusive when 40% of a cabin is GS? (there were 25 1Ks on board too). I have to say it's very motivational for me to spend more to get and/ or keep GS, which arguably so amazing benefit that justifies the extra spend (either premium on UA or directing business that may goto other airlines to UA)

Likely because this was a peak travel day (Friday) coming back from EU.

I have been on many off-peak flights to see non to 2 GS on a long haul TPAC / TATL.

There will be a lot of variance between flights and travel dates.... of course this is just an opinion based on a lot of flying.

True domestically as well. If I'm on the 6AM ORD <> LGA flight on Monday morning there are at least 10 GS members that board early. If I'm on the 10AM there are zero. If i'm on the 6AM on Wednesday, there are zero.

Completely agree. I was on a CDG>EWR flight a few weeks ago on a Wednesday and there was one other GS and about 6 1K in Polaris.
